Material required
The three key ingredients in making soap are oil or fat, lye and water.

Steps involved in the preparation of soap are:
- Take a beaker with about 20 mL of caster oil in it.
- Add 30 mL of 20% sodium hydroxide to the beaker.
- Heat the mixture and stir it constantly until soap is formed.
- Add 5-10 g of common salt to it and stir the mixture.
