Poem: Love Story

Authors Note:
This one is a long one so enjoy.
He loved her for who she was
before they even knew each other.
Long before they ever met
He prayed for her.
His heart reaching to her,
praying that her heart was protected.
Hoping that she would be safe,
excited for the day they’d meet.
Then all of life’s choices
brought them together.
They took a chance on each other
to give the other their heart.
He loved her for who she was,
while they were dating.
He was blessed by her in his life,
while trying to bless her life.
Their story was written,
a blessed mystery to explore.
He knew he wanted to be with her,
through better or worse.
Mistakes were made,
secrets hidden.
Ashamed he hid them all,
in silence she knew something was wrong.
He loved her for who she was
while they were married.
They shared blessed moments,
many good memories.
Something was missing,
darkness began to cloud his eyes.
Unknown it was happening,
only knowing his heart for her.
The signs were there,
of a storm surrounding them.
Both unable to ask for help,
both hoping the other would lead.
He loved her for who she was
in better, and in worse.
Longing to reconnect with her,
but she remained distant.
Then the storm worsened,
over time toxicity entered their hearts.
Truth was revealed,
a truth neither could really walk away from.
She became angry and distant,
hurtful in her words.
He thought he deserved it,
for the darkness within him told him so.
He loved her for who she was,
even after she started to pull away.
Mistakes were made by both,
costly mistakes neither knew how much.
Lustful hearts began to form,
a life that she wanted that she didn’t have.
Communication breaking down,
darkness wedged itself in.
They barely knew how bad it was
the darkness surrounding them.
Both finding stuff to distract them
neither willing to work with the other.
He loved her for who she was
even after she walked away.
She had enough and wanted out,
He still chose her, still loved her.
She changed and grew,
discovering a life within her.
He realized he barely knew her to begin with,
but still chose to love her.
Distance growing greater,
lies and hurtful words struck his heart.
He left it open for her to hurt,
hoping she would see how much he loved.
He loves her for who she is,
no matter the distance between them.
She was such a special part of his life for so long.
He still finds blessings about her.
He seeks help,
works to purge the darkness within his heart.
The darkness that told him lies,
that kept him from loving himself.
A love he wanted,
and longed to give.
He could not give,
what he didn’t have inside.
He loves her for who she is,
regardless of where she is.
Others say it’s a waste of time,
his heart struggles to let go.
He longs to stand with her,
she remains very distant.
He is afraid she doesn’t care to see
the man he struggles to be.
It doesn’t matter to her,
she finds herself afraid of the past.
She doesn’t see the damage she did,
as the darkness remains around her.
He loves her for who she will become,
for he knows no other way to love.
All his heart he gives to her,
She continues to push away.
If it is meant to be,
than life will make it happen.
So people tell him,
he continues to love.
He struggles to let go,
lost and afraid.
She is happy on the surface,
he hears the sadness in her voice.
He loves her for who she will become,
finding it easier to love.
The past chapters are over,
the story is still being written.
A special place in his heart,
she will always have.
He wonders if she feels the same,
the weight on his heart he knows the truth.
She may never see,
how much she meant to him.
She may never see,
how hard he was willing to work.
He loves her for her,
flaws, mistakes, hurtfulness, darkness.
All of it makes a special woman,
in his eyes.
She says he’s wasting his time,
others wonder why he tries.
He finds it’s a worthwhile fight,
for one day she might see.
She is worth the struggle,
he is worth the effort.
Longing to make it up to her,
one day he might.
He loves her for who she was,
He loves her for who she is
He loves her for who she will become,
He loves her.
The story is over,
They both move on.
New love will be found
at least he hopes.
He loved her.
He loved her.
He loves her.
He loves her.
Authors Note:
This one was written in 2016 when I was going through a difficult time in a relationship. I hope it speaks of heartache and hope. Happiness, through tears. We may have gone our separate ways, and the season ended. I am thankful for the moments we had, and would do it all again just to experience that season again. As all seasons have their good points and bad, so did we. I am not who I was then, I have taken the pain and grown from it.
