Lure towards the worldly matters (Vishayāh) is dangerous. The worldly matters are those that attract the human senses. They are shabda (sound),sparsha (touch), rūpa (form), rasa (taste), gandha (smell). These five are the qualities of the five elements. Even though it seems as though it gives pleasure to the beings, ultimately it only gives pain. All these worldly pleasures are not real. Their attractive power is immensely great. Hence, all the beings fall into the trap of illusion and invite a big danger. Not just for humans, this danger also exists for the animals living in the jungle.
For instance, the deers in the jungle move about freely. Sound brings a threat to the lives of the deers. As soon as they listen some sound, they do not move ahead. For them, the sense of listening works very sharply. They listen to the music of hunters and forget themselves totally. In this manner, they surrender to sound and bring danger to their lives.
Let us analyse about the sense of touch. For the touch of the female elephants, the male elephants even lose their lives. To capture the elephants roaming about in the forest, the hunters dig big pits on the way, cover them with leaves and place the female toy elephants there. Being totally clueless of this fact, the male elephants fall into the illusion that the elephant is real, move quickly and fall into the pit. This danger happens to the elephants because of surrendering to touch.
Let us look into the aspect of form. Form is related to radiance which implies that it is related to fire too. A moth naturally feels happy by looking at the flames. It feels like getting into it. It has got powerful senses. Here the form is the worldly matter that attracts the senses. Hence, the moth looks at the flame and gets attracted. Hence, it innocently jumps into the fire and turns to ashes. In this manner, the moth had to meet this fate because of surrendering to the flames.
Let us now think about taste (rasa). 'Rasa' is used to drink water and others. The organ that tells about taste in tongue. A fish can easily find the taste. It always tastes everything and goes ahead. This is its behaviour and weakness too. Taking this as an advantage, inorder to catch fish, a trap consisting of something to eat is arranged for it. Since fish has interest in taste, it will immediately gulp the eatable that is fixed to the trap. A thorn in the trap will hit it straight in the throat and will cause it to die. Here, the attraction towards taste has brought the danger.
Gandha means smell. This is related to nose. The bees have a weakness in this regard. They do not like the smell of champak flowers. That flower is like an intoxicant for the bee. However, because of the temptation for the smell, it sits on the flowers and gets attracted to the smell. Thus, it invites a big threat for its very own life.
In this manner, because of sound and other worldly matters; we understand that the deers, elephants, moths, fish and bees give up life. The man has the power of all the above five senses. If he surrenders to these, then the state of man is vulnerable. He always surrenders to them all. While the other beings have interest only on one worldly matter, man has interest on all of the above discussed matters. That is why, man gets tormented with all these unlike the other beings which can at least survive for few days if they do not succumb to the senses. Man gets attracted to all of them every day. Hence, he gets troubles all time. So, every man must be very cautious in this regard. The other important aspect is control. There must be a limit on thinking. Then, he will emerge victorious.
