When I saw the announcement of this game, a long time ago, I instantly put it on my to-play list. The concept it has seems very original to me, plus playably it has a style that appeals to me. However, when it was released I could not play it due to the low power of my old PC, which is strange because although it was not a very powerful PC, the game is not graphically a wonder, but well. Days ago I saw it again and, taking advantage of the fact that now I have a little more power in my PC, I gave it a second chance.
Ravenous Devils is a management game where we will be in charge of two businesses; a tavern and a sewing store. However, things will be a bit different from what we might expect. The game begins by showing us a cinematic of a couple who have just arrived in town and have established a business, but, shortly after we will see how they murder and cut to pieces their first customer.
The business consists of customers arriving at the sewing store to order a suit and, while the husband is taking the measurements, he takes the opportunity to murder them. Then he throws the bodies through a garbage can that connects directly to the kitchen.
In the kitchen will be the wife, who will receive the bodies and prepare them. How? Well, we will have a meat grinder where we will put the corpses and we will make ground meat. Once the process is finished, we will be able to use that meat for cooking.
To cook we will have to take a handful of ground meat and mix it with flour, then we will put the dish in the oven and wait for it to be ready. When it is ready we will go up to the tavern and we will be able to place the food on the counter so that the customers that come can eat. We will have a recipe book to guide us.
And going back a bit to the sewing store; After we kill the customers, the husband will take advantage of the clothes they were wearing to get fabric. This fabric we will use to make suits and sell them.
The store will have a schedule, while it is open customers will arrive, order food, buy costumes and leave (some of them). When closing time comes, we will be able to use the profits obtained to buy different improvements, things like a second work table, increase the speed of the ovens or new tools that will allow us to prepare new types of food.
Whenever we get a new cooking tool, our recipe book will grow and we will be able to offer new and better food, which will also make us earn more money. The instruments will be things like a table to prepare steaks, a sausage machine, among others.
After a couple of days, we will receive a letter. A mysterious man will tell us that he knows our secret, but not to be afraid, because he likes to eat human flesh. This mysterious man will make us special requests, which will consist of murdering a specific person. The story will revolve around this mysterious man and his strange requests. Whenever we kill one of these victims, a special event will occur.
As we progress and improve the restaurant we will unlock new mechanics. As for example the tables, where customers will sit and make special orders. We will have a time limit to cook and deliver these orders, if the customer's patience runs out, he will leave the restaurant and we will not earn money.
But it's not all good things. A pretty big flaw the game has, at least for me, is the lack of automation. Having to do everything manually (kill the customers, load them into the machine, select the ingredients, take them to the honro, etc.) is something that is fine when you are starting out, but when you have already advanced, have many tables to wait on and many counters to fill with food, it becomes tiresome. What good does it do me to have 3 upgraded ovens and several meat manufacturing machines if I only have a single cook that I must control manually?
But well, despite this the game is fine, the concept is very original, plus, although the story is a bit secondary, you can get intrigued by the whole theme of the mysterious cannibal, the victims and all that. I could recommend it, but with a big warning that it can get repetitive after a few days/hours.
