Date Night Bowling is a curious game to say the least, the reason I was interested in it was the Pixel art style, because the theme is not usually of my interest. However, after playing it, it turned out to be more interesting than it seems, so I decided to talk a bit about it.
As always in sports titles there is not much story behind and this is no exception. We will have at our disposal two game modes, the classic, where we will play Bowling for 10 rounds against a rival or alone, and the "Date Night" mode, where in addition to playing Bowling we will have the possibility that love blooms with our rival, before explaining this mode in depth, let's first with the general mechanics of the game.
It's quite simple, first we must aim where we want to shoot, then we will see a bar on the screen that will show us where the ball will curve, and finally when our character is preparing to shoot we will see the power bar that will fluctuate from less to more, depending on the shot we want to achieve we must try to stop the bar at the desired power.
Now, in date night mode as in the classic mode we will face our rival in 10 rounds, with the difference that after each round we will have different special events, which depending on how we carry them out we can strengthen our connection with her/him.
These events will be shown to us in the form of mini games, polishing your opponent's ball, massaging his shoulders, having an interesting chat, dancing, giving him different compliments, buying him a drink, all of these will have their own mini game with a specific mechanic. If we do it right, our connection bar will increase.
If at the end of the 10 rounds we have a high enough connection bar, it means that the date was successful and we managed to forge a special connection. On the other hand, if the night is over and our connection bar is low, we will see how our game partner will express his dissatisfaction with the date and give you his good wishes for you to find someone else.
Although the game is quite simple, I think it's an interesting concept, it's not a "dating simulator" but it's not the typical bowling game either, those little mini games with your rival add variety to the gameplay and in case you prefer traditional bowling without anything else, you'll have the classic mode at your disposal.
I would say that the design/style is its strongest point, the game tracks, the characters and their animations when preparing to throw the ball, everything is polished and with a lot of detail, I think it's charming. However, despite these good words in its favour, I wouldn't know whether to recommend it, it's fun to play 1 or 3 games and try the date night mode and try to find love, but I don't think it's a game you're going to "love" or get hooked on.
