Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

L'episodio si apre con una prima parte animata dove a rubare la scena sono gli amici a quattro zampe di tanti esseri umani: i gatti.
I compagni felini si aggirano nelle nostre case coccolati, nutriti, amati ed, apparentemente, felici. Di notte, però, avviene che la piccola palla di pelo protagonista delle scene iniziali venga stimolata ad uscire da parte di un altro gatto, verso una direzione ignota dove ad attenderli ci sarà una leggendaria compagna da cui tutti attendono una grossa rivelazione, un importante messaggio che possa riunire il popolo felino.
Con un pizzico di delusione degli astanti quello che la gatta avrà da dire è principalmente legato ad un sogno, un sogno che l'aveva riconciliata con il suo popolo e connessa con quello che per noi altri non è che il protagonista della serie, il nostro Orfeo, il nostro Sandman.
Il racconto serve a ribaltare la prospettiva che evidenziavo all'inizio.
I gatti non sono cosi amati, non sono cosi coccolati, non sono cosi felici. Essi sono, fondamentalmente, degli schiavi degli esseri umani.
Questi ultimi, donano un tetto, del cibo, il calore di un camino, è vero, ma solo in cambio di eterna fedeltà e di soddisfacimento dei propri bisogni, spesso frivoli, e senza che alcun gatto possa minimante nuocere al proprio padrone, neppure in termini puramente estetici.

L'incantesimo che attende il popolo felino chiama a raccolta mille gatti, ognuno dei quali sarà parte integrante di una rivoluzione che invertirà la rotta.
Ma anche i gatti, come gli uomini, preferiscono il calore di un camino, una scodella piena piuttosto che una vuota, una carezza ogni tanto piuttosto che la rivoluzione.
L'appello resterà quasi inascoltato, la metafora sarà totale, il lancio verso la seconda parte completo.

Entra in scena Calliope, figlia di Zeus, nata da un Dio, e Dea a sua volta.
Calliope, divina musa ispiratrice da migliaia di anni è pero vittima di un vincolo ineludibile che la lega al proprio "padrone".
Anch'ella, come i gatti, è schiava di esseri umani, nel caso specifico di scrittori privi di ispirazione, che promettono, regalano, millantano la libertà della propria schiava salvo custodirla gelosamente per soddisfare i propri istinti, le proprie velleità.

E allora Calliope diventa una schiava per oltre 60 anni.
60 anni in cui viene rinchiusa, picchiata, persino violentata, il tutto per imporle di ispirare uomini che dovrebbero essere ispirati liberamente e da una Dea benevola e libera e non da una prigioniera come Calliope è diventata.
La donna chiede di essere liberata, implora, prega, spiega come andrebbero davvero ispirate le persone ma nulla, i suoi appelli restano inascoltati. I 2 scrittori che si alternano in questo episodio promettono entrambi la libertà tanto agognata, non riuscendo, però, a mantenere la parola.
Il successo, quando arriva, è una dipendenza troppo forte. Il metadone non serve, la riabilitazione non esiste, l'overdose non è prevista.
Arriverà Sandman, chiamato da Calliope a darle man forte, a liberarla dai suoi oppressori.
Scopriremo che i 2 sono legati da una storia d'amore e dolore che li vedeva innamorati e coniugati, genitori di un figlio oramai perduto.

Calliope è, adesso, parte attiva ed integrante di questo nuovo universo seriale.
La rivedremo, probabilmente, nella seconda stagione, quando Lucifero scatenerà l'inferno e le forze del bene, gli Eterni più legati al King Dream, dovranno fare fronte comune per scongiurare un attacco feroce.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.

Did you think it was just a dream?

After the great success of the first season of Neil Gaiman's globally successful Graphic Novel adaptation of Sandman, and just a few weeks after the release of the entire first season, the home of our Netflix account presented us with a new episode of the show, to the general amazement and delight.
The title of the episode is Dreams of a Thousand Cats/Calliope and right from the "slash" that appears in the title it is clear that in fact, this is a double episode concentrated within one episode.
It will be the opening title, the writing The Sandman that will separate them by moving us, just as if we were inside a dream from one part of the episode to another.
Let's talk about it briefly even though I had already said a lot about The Sandman in this post regarding the first season.
Gaiman and Netflix have, in any case, given us a nice surprise and it would be rude not to return the courtesy by talking about it for at least a few minutes.

The episode opens with an animated first part where stealing the show are the four-legged friends of so many humans: cats.
The feline companions roam our homes cuddled, fed, loved and, seemingly, happy. At night, however, it happens that the little furball protagonist of the opening scenes is stimulated to go out by another cat, to an unknown direction where waiting for them will be a legendary companion from whom everyone is waiting for a big revelation, an important message that can bring the feline people together.
With a hint of disappointment from onlookers what the cat will have to say is mainly related to a dream, a dream that had reconciled her with her people and connected her with what for us is none other than the protagonist of the series, our Orpheus, our Sandman.
The story serves to reverse the perspective I was highlighting at the beginning.
Cats are not so loved, they are not so pampered, they are not so happy. They are, fundamentally, slaves to humans.
The latter, they give a roof, food, the warmth of a fireplace, it is true, but only in exchange for eternal loyalty and the satisfaction of their own, often frivolous, needs, and without any cat being able to harm their master in the slightest, not even in purely aesthetic terms.
A purebred cat, for example, will not be allowed to meddle with fetish and pedigree-free cats, on pain of their removal or their own death.
The message is clear. Humans are the masters. Cats the slaves. There is no relationship between them, no equality, no humanity.
So how to subvert the pattern?
The spell that awaits the feline people summons a thousand cats, each of whom will be an integral part of a revolution that will reverse the course.
But cats, like humans, prefer the warmth of a fireplace, a full bowl rather than an empty one, an occasional caress rather than revolution.
The appeal will go almost unheard, the metaphor will be total, the launch to the second part complete.

Enter Calliope, daughter of Zeus, born of a God, and Goddess in turn.
Calliope, divine muse-inspirer for thousands of years, however, is the victim of an inescapable bond that binds her to her "master."
She, too, like the cats, is a slave of human beings, in the specific case of uninspired writers, who promise, give away, boast of their slave's freedom except to guard it jealously to satisfy their own instincts, their own ambitions.
Fame first and foremost.
Selfishness prevailing before any altruistic purpose.
Nothing can stop a man in pursuit of success and eternal life.
Not even a Goddess.
Not even a Muse.
So Calliope becomes a slave for over 60 years.
60 years in which she is locked up, beaten, even raped, all to force her to inspire men who should be inspired freely and by a benevolent and free Goddess and not by a prisoner as Calliope has become.

The woman asks to be set free, begs, prays, explains how people should really be inspired but nothing, her appeals go unheard. The 2 writers who take turns in this episode both promise the longed-for freedom, failing, however, to keep their word.
Success, when it comes, is too strong an addiction. Methadone is not needed, rehabilitation does not exist, overdose is not expected.
Along comes Sandman, called by Calliope to give her a helping hand, to free her from her oppressors.
We will discover that the 2 are linked by a history of love and pain that saw them in love and married, parents of a now-lost son.
They had parted badly, very badly, promising each other the worst of fates.
They find each other again.
Without complaint. Without repercussions. Without revenge.
Sandman acts. He sets her free. He avenges her.
The 2 reconcile.
Calliope is, now, an active and integral part of this new serial universe.
We will see her again, probably, in the second season, when Lucifer unleashes hell and the forces of good, the Eternals most connected to the King Dream, will have to put up a united front to avert a vicious attack.
The special episode ends.
It introduced a new character and unleashed a metaphor as simple as it is bitterly true.
Man is a selfish and dangerous being, a victim of himself and his own ambitions.
Dreams, however, can help.
Not always. Not all of them.
