Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Udun è, senza ombra di dubbio, non solo il migliore episodio della serie Amazon Prime Video sin qui ma è anche, molto probabilmente, il prototipo di quello che, ancor prima che lo show esordisse, ci saremmo aspettati di vedere una volta aperta la scatola contenente i cioccolatini di Jeff Bezos.
Ciò nonostante, di errori, facilonerie ed incongruenze sembrano essercene ancora ma, visto il pregresso, possiamo accontentarci di questo sonoro miglioramento.
Partiamo dai difetti o dai pregi?

Preferisco partire da questi ultimi poichè degli errori e delle noie vissute a causa dei primi episodi ne ho parlato veramente tanto nei post precedenti (a piè di pagina vi lascio i link alla recensioni di tutti gli altri episodi che hanno preceduto questo).
Visivamente, e questa non è una novità, è stato un gran bell'episodio. Lo slancio della battaglia ha reso tutto molto più semplice ma le sequenze di lotta, specie quelle a cavallo, hanno restituito tutta la potenza di quei momenti. Non è durato moltissimo, a dir la verità, ma tanto è bastato per far accelerare leggermente i battiti del cuore. La sequenza finale, poi, quella dei gayser improvvisi, dell'acqua che tutto travolge e dell'esplosione del vulcano è stata realizzata in maniera davvero impeccabile.

Una serie fantasy, a mio avviso, deve saper essere dinamica e deve regalare lunghi momenti con un ritmo serrato. La stasi dei primi episodi cozzava troppo con questo genere molto più che con altri generi. In un drama puoi permetterti di costruire e sviscerare all'infinito, puoi farlo persino nella fantascienza ma nel fantasy no. Nel fantasy, presto o tardi, dovrai mostrare battaglie, accelerazioni, plot twist, mondi fantastici in tutta la loro potenza, personaggi meravigliosi in tutta la loro stranezza. In questo episodio condensiamo, forse, tutto quello che era mancato prima in questi termini e non a caso questa svolta coincide con l'arrivo della prima vera battaglia.

As usual, today I am bringing you in a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.

In spite of the fact that almost everyone disagreed with what I had written in this post in relation to the fifth episode of The Rings of Power, I remain firm in the idea that up to that point that had been, without a shadow of a doubt, the best episode.
Not that it took much to be superior to the initial episodes, which appeared lacking in bite and without an interesting direction, but Partings, that was the title of the episode in question, had somehow given us glimpses of the show we imagined we were facing, indicating, at last, a slightly clearer and more organic direction.
I had a point since in the immediately following episode, titled Udun, many knots come to the boil, the plot advances decisively, the pace grows and with it the whole show.
Udun is, without a shadow of a doubt, not only the best episode of the Amazon Prime Video series so far but is also, most likely, the prototype of what, even before the show debuted, we would have expected to see once we opened the box containing Jeff Bezos' chocolates.
Nonetheless, there still seem to be errors, oversimplifications, and inconsistencies but, given the track record, we can be content with this resounding improvement.
Shall we start with the flaws or the merits?

I prefer to start with the latter since of the errors and annoyances experienced because of the first episodes I have really talked a lot about them in previous posts (at the foot of the page I leave links to the reviews of all the other episodes that preceded this one).
Visually, and this is nothing new, it was a great episode. The momentum of the battle made everything much easier, but the fight sequences, especially those on horseback, restored all the power of those moments. It didn't last very long, truth be told, but enough was enough to make the heartbeats quicken slightly. The final sequence, then, that of the sudden gayser, the water that overwhelms everything, and the volcano explosion was truly impeccably done.
The thing that, most of all, changed was the pace. Always very compressed in past episodes, this time it did not give us a moment's respite. The attack of the orcs first, the landing of Galadriel, Halbrand and Numenor's army then, and finally the final twist, managed to keep the tension and attention of us viewers very high.

A fantasy series, in my opinion, must know how to be dynamic and must deliver long moments with a fast pace. The stasis of the first episodes clashed too much with this genre much more than with other genres. In a drama you can afford to build and eviscerate endlessly, you can even do that in science fiction but in fantasy you can't. In fantasy, sooner or later, you have to show battles, accelerations, plot twists, fantastic worlds in all their power, wonderful characters in all their strangeness. In this episode we condense, perhaps, everything that had been lacking before in these terms, and it is no coincidence that this twist coincides with the arrival of the first real battle.
