Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

L'incipit del terzo episodio è spiazzante.
Un biondo bambino viene adorato dalle donne a corte.
Tra loro c'è re Viserys, festante e sorridente ma sotto pelle abbastanza turbato.
Scorgiamo Alicent, la nuova regina.
Sembra essere incinta.
Scopriremo che la nostra impressione non era errata.
Rispetto agli eventi che chiudevano The Rogue Prince, sono passati 3 anni.
Un Flash Forward ci accoglie.
La casa Targaryen si è arricchita di un nuovo erede, Aegon, sebbene sia ancora Rhaenira l'erede designata al trono.
Nel grembo di Alicent si cela un nuovo figlio per Viserys.

Nel frattempo, Daemon e Corlys stanno faticando, e non poco, a sconfiggere Craghas Drahar, detto il Nutrigranchi,
La battaglia nelle Stepstones è sanguinaria e sta lentamente mettendo in ginocchio l'esercito guidato dal Masters of Ship e dal fratello del re.
Nonostante Caraxes ed una potenza bellica non trascurabile, l'esercito capitanato dal Lord Valiriano e da Daemon sta quasi soccombendo, spingendo il fratello di Corlys a scrivere a Viserys in cerca di un aiuto militare che possa ribaltare le sorti del conflitto.
La lettera sarà recapitata al re durante le celebrazioni-del "second birthday" di Aegon, occasione ghiotta per tutti i pretendenti alla mano di Rhaenira di presentarsi e sfoggiare i propri titoli a caccia di un benestare del re.

Il "First of his name" è un uomo che, proprio ora che ha tutto quello che in principio desiderava (un figlio maschio, un regno, una figlia adulta da dare in sposa, fidati consiglieri), sente il bisogno di confessare, soprattutto a se stesso, gli sbagli commessi, sbagli fatali che lo hanno allontanato dalla sua essenza e lo hanno spinto a commettere errori esistenzialmente imperdonabili, soprattutto, e ancora una volta, a se stesso.
La morte di Aemma è una cicatrice ancora fresca e non rimarginabile. La lotta con Daemon lo ha ferito irrimediabilmente. L'astio di Rhaenira lo lacera come niente al mondo. L'arrivo di Aegon, più che aiutarlo a lenire tali sofferenze, sembra acquirle.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.
The events of The Rogue Prince (review here) had thrown us into a dimension that we had already known extensively in Game Of Thrones.
Marriages as triggering events for battles or even wars have always been a hallmark of the Martinian epic. Just think of the Red Wedding and we can close the topic.
The announcement that Viserys would marry, against all odds, and against the most basic common sense, Alicent Hightower had given us a foretaste of a bloody future in Westeros, inside and outside the city walls, inside and outside the House of Dragons.
With Second Of His Name, the marital theme remains afloat, with Rhaenira, this time, at the center of intrigue, promises, and probing concerning her future spouse.
It will not, however (and fortunately), be just a "political" and courtier episode.
The fruits of the fireside chat between Daemon and Corlys, are gathered in this yet another extraordinary episode.

The opening of the third episode is unsettling.
A blond child is adored by the women at court.
Among them is King Viserys, festive and smiling but under the skin quite troubled.
We catch a glimpse of Alicent, the new queen.
She appears to be pregnant.
We discover that our impression was not wrong.
Compared to the events that closed The Rogue Prince, three years have passed.
A Flash Forward greets us.
House Targaryen has been enriched by a new heir, Aegon, although Rhaenira is still the designated heir to the throne.
In Alicent's womb lies a new son for Viserys.
That so longed-for male child has finally arrived.
Aemma had put her life on the line to fulfill Viserys' obsession.
Alicent succeeded immediately, and now Aegon is the rightful heir to the throne of Westeros that the whole city, and in 7 full kingdoms, are called upon to celebrate in the rite of passage that awaits each of the king's offspring.
Rhaenira sees fading dreams of one day being queen.

Meanwhile, Daemon and Corlys are struggling, and not a little, to defeat Craghas Drahar, known as the Nutrigranchi,
The battle in the Stepstones is bloody and is slowly bringing the army led by the Masters of Ship and the king's brother to its knees.
Despite Caraxes and a not inconsiderable war power, the army led by Lord Valirian and Daemon is almost succumbing, prompting Corlys' brother to write to Viserys seeking military aid that can turn the tide of the conflict.
The letter will be delivered to the king during the celebrations-of Aegon's "second birthday," a golden opportunity for all pretenders to Rhaenira's hand to show up and flaunt their titles in pursuit of the king's approval.
The time has come for Viserys to descend into the deepest depths of his own soul and conscience. The scene of him astonished and weary in front of a stake, while behind his back everyone is chatting and celebrating and the echo of the battle is far away, with an overpowering and pregnant Alicent, is emblematic.
The "First of his name" is a man who, just now that he has everything he originally desired (a son, a kingdom, an adult daughter to give in marriage, trusted advisors), feels the need to confess, especially to himself, the mistakes he has made, fatal mistakes that have distanced him from his essence and driven him to make existentially unforgivable mistakes, especially, and again, to himself.
Aemma's death is a scar still fresh and unhealable. The fight with Daemon wounded him irreparably. Rhaenira's rancor tears at him like nothing in the world. Aegon's arrival, rather than helping to soothe such suffering, seems to acquit it.
