who knows?
Who Knows?
Come avvocato e cliente? Come compagni? Come amici con lunghi trascorsi alle spalle?
Who Knows?
Together, we are poison!
Ci pensa Jimmy a salutare Kim e salutare noi in purissimo stile Better Call Saul.
Ricordate?

This is the future link to the post that I am inviting you to read in the coming days at www.serialfiller.org and which is previewed here
As usual today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.
Just enough time to joke about it for a minute and it's time to say goodbye.
86 years is a long time, but:
who knows?
are the last 2 words we will hear spoken in better call saul.
They have a twofold, threefold, in every way multiple meaning.
Jimmy, resigned by never seeing the light again, seems almost to hope for a future twist that will allow him to see again, sooner or later a manicure salon, the desert, a disposable cell phone store.
Who Knows?
It is a signal to Kim and Jimmy, a question that is whispered to us viewers and, by reference to the protagonists themselves, about the possibility that someday the 2 will meet again.
As lawyer and client? As partners? As friends with long histories behind them?
Who Knows?
But that non-rhetorical question is also thrown at us viewers who would like at all costs to continue to enjoy the beauty of the universe created almost 15 years ago by Vince Gilligan. Will there be another spinoff? Perhaps centered on Kim?
Who Knows?
The only certainty is that those words will be the last spoken on the show.
Bob Odenkirk pronounces them, Jimmy McGill pronounces them.
It was never the words, just the words that made Better Call Saul the masterpiece it undeniably became.
The authors have always managed to leave us without (words) and breathless even when it was the images, accompanied by silence, the beautiful music that this show has packaged and it was the performances of its 2 mammoth talents that were weaving the plot, composing the emotions, arousing boundless admiration.
The final walk, the final ride is theirs.
Kim walks out of the prison.
A guard accompanies her.
She is visibly shaken but not with fear, not with anger, not with despondency.
It is the shaking of a soul that has lived intensely through a story that condensed everything and the opposite of everything and had love and adrenaline as its fuel. That fuel, after years of absence and after a brief absconding, was now behind his back, locked in a cell from where he could no longer harm anyone.
Together, we are poison!
So had Kim sentenced in Fun & Games, before their relationship detonated, before Breaking Bad's Saul Goodman made his first real appearance in Better Call Saul.
What Kim could not have known then, and could not have predicted, was that a broken heart can make those who dwell in its bosom do unpredictable and extreme things.
What Kim could not have known was that from a wounded and forsaken Jimmy would be born Saul Goodman, would be born that man who would one day lock his Jimmy up in Montrose Prison.
And there Jimmy is, there he is, wearing a prison jumpsuit, behind a very high net that separates his essence from the free world and his Kim.
Jimmy and Kim find each other, just a few steps away from the prison exit.
Kim is looking forward to a new life, a new life all to (re)build.
For Jimmy, there is nothing left. Nothing that can turn him on. Nothing worth planning, dreaming, hoping for.
Gould gives us an image that is worth more than an entire monologue, than perfect dialogue.
Kim turns and, from behind her very high net, catches a glimpse, facing her, of Jimmy.
The 2, separated by that unforgiving wall, perfectly symmetrical within the frame, stand facing each other.
Once again there is understanding.
Once again, even from opposite barricades, even with 2 barbed walls separating them, one knows exactly how to communicate anything to the other, and vice versa.
It takes Jimmy to send a message.
It takes Jimmy to greet Kim and greet us in pure Better Call Saul style.
It was she who unleashed the imaginary guns, it was she who sent Jimmy a conspicuously excited message.
Without saying anything, and only with that hand gesture, Kim was telling Jimmy that he could count on her.
She would put everything aside, drop rules, customs, conformity, and even the law just to be next to him to knock Howard out.
I Am In!
That was the meaning of that season finale, a symbiotic attunement that was being enshrined.
Kim's finger guns would lead to Howard's death, Kim's own farewell, Saul Goodman's birth, Heisenberg's empire, Hank's death, Saul's escape, Gene's arrival.
Those finger guns, in a way, were a butterfly effect that would lead them to live that melancholy and very sad moment between 2 very high walls of wire mesh and barbed wire.
This time it is Jimmy who shoots, it is Jimmy who says "I Am In," certifying that after more than 6 years Jimmy is back and ready to be forgiven, welcomed and loved again, this time platonically, by Kim.
Kim is taken aback. She understands. She remembers.
He does not return that symbolic gesture. It is not time yet. She has not really returned. Too much has happened. Too much pain has crept into the skin. Too many lives have been burned. Too many lives have been lost.
The memory, the affection, the love, the adrenaline will not fade and never will.
Albuquerque is far away.
Their Albuquerque is far away.
Our Albuquerque is far away.
Only silence remains. A look of understanding. A hinted smile. A few choked tears. A knot in the throat. A mind that flies. A heart beating slower and slower. A sigh deepening.
A guard, that guard, ready to open the last door.
Kim walks through it.
He walks, slowly, toward the exit.
She does not turn around.
At least not right away.
Jimmy is there.
With his hands in his pockets.
Imaginary guns in his pockets.
We have seen everything.
We won't see anything else.
Kim is also thinking the same thing.
Or maybe not.
Kim Wexler turns around, one more time.
For the last time.
Her face is lost, nostalgic, sad.
She sees her Jimmy growing smaller and smaller, fading into the distance.
Until...
Until Kim's view is interrupted by a door, that damn door that comes in sweeping away Kim's close-up.
For a moment we still catch a glimpse of Jimmy.
He is there, in the background, once again losing his newfound Kim.
He is there.
He is no longer there.
The door stands between us and him, between him and Kim.
Better Call Saul is over.
End credits.
We've seen it all.
Saul is Gone.
Better Call Saul is Gone.
The best TV series I've ever seen just ended.
