Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
Il prezzo da pagare potrebbe essere alto e coincidere con la perdita del proprio potere politico e del proprio ruolo ma è un costo ampiamente giustificato dal risultato straordinario in termini di affetto, gratitudine e gioia di una grandissima parte del popolo che era chiamata a rappresentare.
For All Mankind è stata, ed è, una serie molto al femminile e molto attenta al tratteggiare figure femminili forti, determinate, anche potenti nel loro ricercare il risultato concreto e tangibile in un mondo dominato dagli uomini. Karen Baldwin è forse la più degna rappresentate di tale intenzione.
Donna fuori dal giro Nasa, classica casalinga americana che avrebbe dovuto cullarsi nei successi del marito, badare ai figli e alla casa, sfornare torte alle mele e indire banchetti coi vicini, Karen, a causa di traumi ingestibili per chiunque, ha ben presto cambiato passo, sbagliando, peccando, persino tradendo ma trovando, finalmente, il suo posto nel mondo.
Lo ha fatto a piccoli passi, riuscendo, però, a diventare un riferimento importantissimo nel mondo dell'imprenditoria spaziale e nel circolo ristretto delle persone che contano in materia di viaggi verso mondo e pianeti sconosciuti o da colonizzare.
Il suo, per quanto forzato, è un percorso ancora più profondo, fatto, appunto, di dolori immensi come quello della perdita di un figlio o il divorzio dalla persona amata ma anche di tradimenti subdoli o necessari come quelli fatti al marito o al socio Del. Sacrifici, errori e lavoro duro che l'hanno resa la donna che ammiriamo in questa stagione. Molly Cob è un altro, ennesimo, esempio di donna forte e schiacciante nel suo eroismo, cosi come Danielle Poole, sempre solida, sempre affidabile, sempre pronta nonostante le discriminazioni legate al colore della sua pelle.
In questo mondo di donne emergono figure di uomini canonici, complessi e variegati, con Del, Ed e Jimmy a regalarci enormi momenti di tormento e di eroismo spesso molto classico ma mai impotente.

As usual today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.
In places, a similar, though even more hyperbolic (and perhaps forced) path we can take for Ellen Wilson (Jodie Balfour) who went from being one of the first women in NASA to aspire to concrete space goals to being, even, the first woman to become president of the United States of America. More than in her political achievements, Wilson emerges strongly in this vintage because of her private life, studded with lies related to her homosexuality that would, inexorably, prevent her from achieving such magnificent goals. Her coming out, from the top of the presidential podium, is an exhilarating and moving moment that gives us a foretaste of the power of radical change when it comes at the hand and mouth of the most powerful woman in the world. Her message liberates, in one fell swoop, millions of people from the shame of prejudice and discrimination.
The price to be paid may be high and coincide with the loss of one's political power and role, but it is a cost amply justified by the extraordinary result in terms of the affection, gratitude and joy of a very large part of the people she was called upon to represent.
For All Mankind was, and is, a very female-driven series and very careful to portray strong, determined, even powerful female figures in their pursuit of concrete and tangible achievement in a male-dominated world. Karen Baldwin is perhaps the most worthy representative of that intention.
A woman out of the Nasa loop, a classic American housewife who was supposed to be lulled by her husband's successes, looking after the children and the house, baking apple pies and calling banquets with the neighbors, Karen, due to traumas unmanageable for anyone, soon changed pace, making mistakes, sinning, even cheating but finding, finally, her place in the world.
She has done so in small steps, managing, however, to become a most important reference in the world of space entrepreneurship and in the inner circle of people who matter when it comes to travel to unknown worlds and planets or planets to be colonized.
Hers, however forced, is an even deeper path, made up, precisely, of immense sorrows such as that of the loss of a child or divorce from a loved one but also of devious or necessary betrayals such as those made to her husband or partner Del. Sacrifices, mistakes and hard work that have made her the woman we admire this season. Molly Cob is yet another, yet another, example of a strong woman overwhelming in her heroism, as is Danielle Poole, always solid, always dependable, always ready despite discrimination related to the color of her skin.
In this world of women, figures of canonical, complex and varied men emerge, with Del, Ed and Jimmy giving us huge moments of torment and heroism often very classic but never powerless.
