The Pequegnat Victor - sold three years after the factory closed
Here's a strange one to start the series with.
The Victor never appeared in any Pequegnat catalogue. The Arthur Pequegnat Clock Company in Berlin, Ontario shut down in 1941, but the sales label inside this clock shows it was sold on May 29th, 1944.
The likely story is leftover stock. Arthur Pequegnat died in 1927 and the family kept the company running until 1941; after the closure, remaining clocks were sold off over the following years. This one sat somewhere until the spring of 1944, when a dealer finally sold it and filled out the label.
It's a tambour-style mantel clock, and Skip Kerr, who has documented more Pequegnats than anyone alive, calls it one of the really hard ones to find. The movement strikes the hours on tuned rods rather than a gong.
