Deuteronomy 6:13-15 says, "Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; for the Lord thy God is a JEALOUS God among you lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth."
Our 10 year old was confused this week as to WHY? God could be JEALOUS?
"He is God, isn't it a sin to want something that you don't have?"... E1 asked me.
Teaching moment: Hebrew word for "jealous" = "qana" which means to "become very red." What follows the strong action (jealous) is a red face either by activity or emotion (zeal).
Think of how many birds protect their nest at any cost. Love does not envy or control, but some things love does not share.
I asked E1, "Would Daddy share Mommy with another man? - "NEVER!!!" - E1 replied! "Daddy and I made a covenant to one another and we would never share each other with another person, but we do protect our marriage with jealousy for each other as God does for us."
Envy or jealousy in our English language is wrong when it is about something that is NOT YOURS to claim. "Qana" or "zeal" is RIGHT when protecting a relationship that is truly YOURS. God is JEALOUS for the people who are under His wings. He protects them with jealousy and zeal because we are HIS. Do not bring any other gods within HIS House! ⚔️
