- Lao Tse
Feliz lunes querido lector.

The ego is like a monkey jumping through the jungle, fascinated with the realm of the senses. It starts from one desire to another, from one self-centered idea to the next. If you threaten him he really fears for his life. Let that monkey go... - Lao Tzu
Happy Monday dear reader. It is a pleasure for me to share with you this beginning of the week with a reflection that is fundamental to me and that is also a recent discovery on a neurological level to enhance our happiness.
Up to this point I have made several posts on this topic. I apologize if you've already grasped the full depth of it, but the changes in my life have been so extensive that my mind constantly returns to it, trying to figure out why I hadn't done it before.
The mind is responsible for building our identity. It's not just the gender we identify with, our race or our nationality. It can also be identified with sensations and objects that, if missing, would make us feel intense anxiety. The difficult part is that the mind tends to hide these knots as part of some type of defense system. You've probably heard some of this under the name "Ego." However, many tend to demonize it as the worst enemy but the truth is that without it we would not be able to function because otherwise, our identity would be absolutely dispersed in everything, which is known as enlightment, which according to what I have studied, feels quite good, but in that state you wouldn't even move.
What does all this about the mind have to do with the topic? Well, in my endless search for solutions to my mental problems, I learned that clinging to certain things as part of your identity terribly increases the symptoms of depression and anxiety. There are those who feel very identified with a football team. What mood do they have when they lose? The level of attachment tends to correspond to the degree of reaction. In those moments, when the reaction is very virulent and even aggressive, we intuitively realize that certain fans have a serious problem... But what if it is an attachment that everyone has and that feels completely normal?
That's the problem with the mental knot of pleasure. Only in sacred books you meet people who do not actively seek it and who discourage it. We call mature those who simply seek more productive pleasures such as making money, or having useful possessions such as a house or car, but nevertheless, you can also seek to have all those things for pleasure, so excessive that sometimes you could accumulate so many things that you won't have enough life to be able to use them.
Because happiness is so rare but pleasure-seeking abundant, it's easy to confuse the two. We say we feel happy when we eat delicious things, but then that happiness is limited to the brief moments we are eating. There is no shortage of those who say that they are very happy with their partners, but if they weren't with their significant other that happiness would collapse. This is how we determine that pleasure and happiness have been mixed in such a way in the general culture that they have been confused as the same thing and the sad thing is that when you discover what it really is through appropriate practices then you find yourself separated from the others because you are quickly satiated with experiences, since you stop needing them to stay well.
People addicted to pleasure tend to feel more comfortable with other addicts. "How dare you make me feel inferior or damaged by not engaging in my excesses?" So it feels. Of course, I'm not trying to accuse anyone, I'm saying this from my own experience.
All this means changing your environment, personal, social, even work.
Have you met people obsessed with having the house absolutely neat? One day, my mother told me through bitter tears that she no longer had the strength to clean the way she wanted. Generally, one would say that keeping the house clean made her happy, but when you go into excess, the most noticeable thing is that you do not do things in a sustainable way. A person who cleans for happiness does not need to do things all at once but rather recognizes that things have a process. If you don't have the same strength, you can do it in separate loads, but the anxiety for pleasure is so great that not being able to satisfy ourselves plunges us into deep bitterness. I am not saying that a person with a developed daimonic system does not feel anxiety, pain, or bitterness. But for this person it is more a valuable information than something that ends up controlling their life.
What about the money? Am I about to say that we should give up all wealth to achieve happiness? Of course not. Balance, like the vast majority of my posts, is the key here. If you identify yourself as a successful person, notice the enormous pleasure it gives you to move towards that goal, but also, notice the enormous emotional breakdown you suffer when you have a problem. You suffered a scam or, perhaps it turns out that the business was more complicated than you expected. All of this means that you will have to delay the gratification you wanted to get and that will destroy you. Many tend to abandon promising projects as obstacles appear because of this.
Furthermore, the mind tends to defend the identity of "successful" so much that it could go into denial and evade the problems that then accumulate and inevitably lead to collapse, as so many companies have done to hide dirty deals or fatal flaws from their own clients.
In short, it is true that making the change between pleasure and happiness is not intuitive in today's society, but in my own experience I assure you that it could save your life and a lot of suffering.
This post is mainly theoretical to untie the mental knot of pleasure, but here I have other more practical posts on this topic. A big hug!
