It's another lovely weekend and time to work on another weekend engagement post.
The prompt's brought out by our prompt caster @galenkp this week as always are some that'll make your head start working.
Yet I decided to choose the last of the prompt...
My interpretation of the quote
"The secret to happiness is freedom... and the secret to freedom is courage."
Now this is a great quote 🙂, a really great quote...
I think all great quotes have something in common, all great quotes have a vital piece. A main idea that is holding the string of words together and giving them shape.
Without that words, a listener listening to or a reader reading a quote can't get what the sayer of the quote is trying to share, the quote would be unclear or the main point missed.
For the quote given to us, the main point for me was the word "freedom".
Meaning for you to identify what the quote is trying to say, you have to identify what the word freedom means to you.
Freedom means a lot of things to a lot of people, yet the most basic suffix and prefix of any definition of freedom is 'the ability to...' and '...without anyone stopping you.'
- The ability to go anywhere without anyone stopping you...
- The ability to eat and drink anything without anyone stopping you...
- The ability to be with whoever you want without anyone stopping you..
These are various definitions of freedom, yet my own definition is way simpler.
The ability to be myself without anyone stopping me
This should be the most basic freedom anyone should want and it's the freedom I would fight for.
Once one is him or herself, they are always happy.
I'm in my comfort zone, able to act the way I want to act, talk as I want to, eat as I do, just be me.
That's me happy, that's me free 😃✨
Yet for me to have and stay with this freedom, it would take courage to hold my own against people who's idea of freedom contradicts my own. cause there's always someone who would want to lock you up to be free.
The most common type of example of this is the idea of social media influencers and their lifestyle.
Most people willingly lock up their own voices, styles and way of life to try and copy another's (following the trend).
Once someone see's multiple doing something, they would want to do something too.
The peer pressure increases and this everyone has locked up their freedom and is doing one thing.
For someone to break the line, it takes a lot of mental strength and courage.
Courage not to care about what they tell you, not to care about how many people are doing what he/she is choosing not to do. No matter the urging, you choose to live your life, choose to be free.
My Interpretation
"The secret to happiness is freedom... and the secret to freedom is courage."
It's quite simple;
Only when one has the courage to be free can they always be happy.
That's just the gist of it ☺️
