Biduri, or often called widuri (Calotropis gigantea), is a shrub that can grow up to four meters. Its flowers are covered in wax with color gradations from white to purple, soft but captivating to the eye. Although often considered wild, I think there is charm in its simplicity.
That afternoon, on the coast of Aceh, I found it standing firmly among the crashing waves and the salty sea breeze. The sun was setting slowly, leaving an orange color on the horizon. I couldn't resist taking a picture of the biduri with my smartphone. When the screen displayed the image, I was amazed. The dusk enveloped its petals like a golden coat, creating soft shadows that made it look so alive.
As I approached, its sturdy stem seemed to tell a story of determination, while its graceful flowers conveyed a message of tenderness. I felt that this biduri was not just a plant, but a symbol. A symbol of how to survive in a harsh place, standing tall while radiating beauty.
Through biduri, I realized that not all beauty is in a comfortable place. Sometimes, like the biduri on this coast, beauty is born from the struggle against strong winds and waves that continue to come. Biduri teaches that toughness can combine with gentleness, creating an unusual harmony.
Looking at the results of my photos that afternoon, I smiled. Biduri on the coast of Aceh is not just a wild plant. In each of its petals, it carries a simple message: that life is about surviving, shining, and finding beauty even in the most challenging places.
