Ever wondered why we have so many days set aside in a year to celebrate Women? To be honest, I lose count of the number of days there are... Women day, Mother's day, Mothering Sunday, and all the others we have got crammed up in the year to celebrate women.
But then, the girl child is truly special, and they deserve all the love they can get. If nothing, but for the burden of procreation.
This short story here celebrates women (and family) all over the world, and was first drafted on Women's Day, about three years ago. I adjusted a bit of it, and I hope you find it delightful...

Julia had gone the extra mile tonight, she had left no stone unturned. Date night had been postponed for far too long, so she had ensured that tonight's planning was extra special.
She wanted tonight to cover for the many more date nights that will inevitably be postponed in the future, so the more eventful tonight was, the more memorable it was likely to be.
She thought about little Helda, and leaving her with the nanny, and her heart was once more torn in two. I mean whose heart wouldn't melt for a sweet tender bundle of joy, especially when you carried her in your womb for nine long months. Yes she loved Helda with her life, but in-between loving Helda and facing her career, she had missed the attentions of Michelle, her ever so understanding husband.
Well, tonight she would be pulling out all the stops; she had taken time to make her hair, and she had for once properly applied her mascara. She had also set the table perfectly at the garden behind the house, and she had lit all the right candles to make it dashing.
"Tonight I am going to be loved as I deserve." she thought out loud, as she admired her efforts. Then she headed for the phone to call the nanny. But after holding the phone to her ears and hesitating for a few minutes, she decided against it. She was going to put Helda to bed herself, early, and when Michelle came home, it would be just the two of them...
But alas, date night was short-lived...
For a couple hours later Michelle had come home to meet her pleasant surprise, dinner was awesome, the atmosphere was electric once again, and all was going perfect.
Up until Helda had decided that tonight was going to be another one of those wailing nights where every shadow was a ghost from her nightmares. And the crying coming from her cot just refused to stop..
"The little brat" Julia muttered under her breath, but then her heart knew she couldn’t stay away. Date night or not, she was a woman after all.
So she had turned to Michelle with that unique tender look reminiscent of every woman who ever loved.
“Sweetheart" she said, "the baby needs us".
And on that note, date night was done...
THE END
Thanks for stopping by.
