Hello music lovers! 🎵

I always need some external incentive to post in #ttt, and last Friday, when I posted #newtunes, I saw the news that a great musician, Wayne Shorter, had said goodbye to this world and gone into eternity.

His saxophone certainly changed the sound of jazz in the 1970s, bringing it closer to popular rock music and having a major influence on the further development of the genre.
He also worked with many famous musicians of the time, including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Carlos Santana, and many others. In 1969, together with Joe Zawinul, he formed the jazz-fusion band Weather Report, which paved the way for jazz-rock.

And because I have a feeling that the revival of jazz-rock or jazz-fusion is coming again (I don't know, maybe it's just me...), for today's #threetunestuesday, started by @ablaze, I've chosen some of the songs of this genre that I still like to listen to.

Weather Report - Birdland

"Birdland" is taken from the seventh, also very commercial album "Heavy Weather" from 1977. In fact, the song was written for the New York nightclub Birdland, where Weather Report used to make music and perform their improvisations extensively.
The song was written by Joe Zawinull (1932-2007), who played keyboards and synthesizers, Wayne Shorter (1933-2023) on saxophone, Jaco Pastorius (1951-1987), an outstanding bass guitarist, Manolo Badrena (1952), percussion, and Alex Acuña (1944) drums.
The band was active until 1986, after which they all went their separate ways.

Steely Dan - Aya

Aja is the sixth album by the American jazz-rock band Steely Dan, formed in 1971 in New York by Walter Becker (guitars, bass) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, vocals).
It's also one of the band's most popular albums, from 1977, and this song from the album of the same name is particularly successful because it features Wayne Shorter on saxophone. They had a hiatus from 1981 to 1993, and have been performing ever since.
Steely Dan has sold over 40 million records and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Passport - Ataraxia

Passport is a German jazz-rock-fusion band founded by Klaus Doldinger, a saxophonist and film music composer in 1971. The band has had a lot of turnover of musicians (which is quite common in jazz-rock bands), but they continue to play uninterrupted to this day.
I don't follow them that much anymore, but I bought this album, it was one of the thirty LPs I used to have.
