Hello everyone! 😎👺

Since the middle of last week, a great event has started in my town, namely the Carnival, which is in fact one of the few events left in modern times from pagan times, that's to say, from the pre-Christian period.

Symbolically, it's an event where various characters, hidden under masks, good and bad, chase the winter to end as soon as possible.

On Thursday last week, "Pust" (Carnival King puppet), the main character of the carnival, took over the municipality and started the party. We found this out by walking around, everywhere, in every village, there is a puppet standing or hanging up, representing "Pust".
Disclaimer: I used this picture below in a previous post, namely, for me, the party started on Saturday, when I made a post about beers for #beersaturday (@detlev) and mentioned that the carnival had started. I'm posting it here due to context :)

The highlight of the event was the Carnival parade on Sunday, where 26 groups of masks presented themselves, from the surrounding area, each village having its own traditional and ethnological peculiarities, there were also Kurenti, the masks from Ptuj, and a few groups from Croatia because the border between Slovenia and Croatia is no longer there from the January the 1st (Shengen).
There were also some modern masks (Mad Max style...).

Visitors were most impressed by the local traditional masks Škoromati, I won't translate it because I don't really know how, these are local expressions that aren't understood in other parts of Slovenia also...

The "Škoromat" is the oldest carnival mask in this part of Europe, first mentioned in the 14th century, preserved in our region throughout that time, and an outstanding cultural heritage on a global scale. The masks are divided into good and bad, and they have fun in chaotic harmony.

The last act of the carnival will take place on Wednesday, when the local community, led by the mayor, will burn the Carnival King puppet at the stake.
And then we wait for next year when it all happens again. 😁👺
