When it comes to Modern Champion, Lorkus is one of those summoners (or as they have been recently re-classified: Archons) that are one of the most powerful options for many rulesets. In this post I am going to talk about how I use Lorkus in Modern Champion League and show a battle where I have defeated @fatjimmy or more accurately one of the top Splinterlands professional players (AKA scholars): J3FF who is piloting accounts ranked number nine and thirteen on the Modern Champion Leaderboard.
The perfect summoner for this battle due to the fact that we have a lot of mana available to build the team, fire and death splinters that Lorkus can pull from is obviously Lorkus. That is why my opponent is also going to use Lorkus.
If you look at the lineups below you will see that J3FF is using some of the most meta cards in the game: Kelan Gaines, Doldrus, Conjurer's Hubris, and Oridum Graybrow. But sometimes you can build a team with lower level cards, for example my Conjurer's Hubris is only level six and not level eight that J3FF is using.
My strategy here is to take advantage of the ruleset to the max. I know that there will be no ranged attackers, so I want to protect against heavy hitters and magic / melee attacks. Therefore for my tank I chose Djinn Muirat that has a lot of void armor and has Forcefield as well as magic reflect. I am able to use this monster as a tank in a Modern battle because the ruleset has Outsider ruleset which allows me to summon one wild unit. We also have Equalizer ruleset in effect which means that I don't need to worry about the health points of monsters that I am choosing. Therefore Djinn Muirat is the perfect tank for this battle.
The rest of my lineup gives priority to high damage over health as well as corrupted healing provided by: Archne Weaver.
I also divide the damage from my opponents attacks by using a highly resistant taunt in the form of Bellowmancer that has seven shield that is also a void shield so he protects equally well against melee and magic attacks that we can expect in this battle.
And finally, I equipped my number five and number four monsters in this lineup with life leach and Affliction as these have the biggest damage and are likely to last the longest in the battle. So with the strategy details out of the way, let's take a look at the actual battle.
Here we have a really high mana ruleset where eighty six mana is available. Normally I would go to the Dragon Splinter as that splinter has one of the most powerful high mana monsters available, however in this battle only Fire, Life and Death are available. So we both went with Lorkus and we can both pull from the two available splinters: Fire and Death. Let's see how this battle goes!
The first round saw plenty of action and excitement, a powerful onslaught from J3FF took out our taunt tank, but we were able to take care of their Conjurer's Hubris, which is very important. Let's see what the second round will bring...
In the second round we lost our own Conjurer's Hubris, but tanks to poison we got rid of J3FF's main tank and took out the secondary tank as well.
In the third round Venka the Vile really showed off why I like playing this card in most battles she was able to take out two monsters and do some significant damage to Keelan Gaines. Round four starts looking really good.
And in the last and final round Venka the Vile has proven herself once again by taking out Keelan Gaines in a single shot and winning us this battle against a much higher ranked opponent.
We get a nice 24+ SPS tokens and a rare bonus of 40 ranking in Champion where streak bonuses do not apply. But this is a bonus for defeating an opponent that is ranked at least 500+ ranking points above you. Though in this case the ranking difference was almost a thousand points.
