Finally Friday and the week is over. Today I used Artificial Intelligence to do a full security audit of our Javascript library that is used for various front end applications.
I had AI log into our content management system then navigate to the Javascript library folder and go through many nested folders and over a thousand Javascript files and examine their contents for references to external libraries.
The Artificial Intelligence evaluated all of these files for references as well as insecure coding practices. It was millions of lines of code accumulated over last fifteen years. AI found many instances of insecure code as well as out of date external components with lots of known vulnerabilities.
Some of the external dependencies were stored locally and were over twelve years old! Then I had an AI agent build a Python program that generated a really nice Microsoft Word document for our management.
This document has all the issues listed in nice tables with details of how to fix them as well as tables with all of the external components all the various versions of them and where they are used. It also listed all the vulnerabilities in those components and the corresponding CVEs.
The tables also contained all the latest versions of the components and links to them. It was actually quite impressive as the document also contained a very nice write up on all of this with the executive summary of what this means in terms of risks and a detailed mitigation plan.
This is the kind of effort that would have taken weeks plus we don't have the expertise to do this level of security work, but with AI it took only me and about half a day off work and spot checking the results.
It is like having a team of top security experts that work several thousand times the speed of humans... The only thing that is limiting AI users is their imagination and token allocation.
I also got a really good weight lifting workout in our office gym and thanks to that and walking to and from the train I got over eighteen thousand steps. So I got something useful done at work and got a workout, not a bad finish for the week.
Oh and we got an email today from our top boss talking about our one hundred twenty million dollar budget deficit for next year and that on top of that deficit he is going to spend twenty million dollars next year on activating space in our office buildings in order to bring us back full time into the office next year.
That is just lovely, great way to waste serious money to reduce the efficiency and morale of your workforce. A great example of why the top executives get paid all that money 馃挵
