In this world many cultures, both original and ancient, have used the energy and symbolism of the natural world as totems to guide and teach. Totem is a natural object, animal or insect that has a special meaning for the person. The Chinese zodiac, for example, is based on animal signs. Native Americans also use animal characteristics to learn the virtues of strength, patience, intelligence and much more is happening in the world.

Around the world there must be butterflies there are more than 28,000 species of butterflies. 80 percent are in the tropics. Although they represent different things in different cultures, universal butterflies represent change and transformation. Why? Because the butterfly is an insect that begins its life in one form and ends it in another. A butterfly begins as a crawling creature, then hibernates in a cocoon, only to rejoin the world as a visible flying insect.
