Hail to the Hive!
It's been a wet, windy, stormy, rainy few days and it looks as though this may continue into the next week. It has given me time to catch up on a few things though and complete a few things that I didn't have the time and mental energy to do after a days cruising along the canals at the breakneck speed of 3mph.
I've also done a lot of thinking. Thinking back on our adventures this past 11 months aboard Badger the Narrowboat and just how lucky we are to have been able to do this. Waking up in new places almost every other day. Exploring the UK as I'd never imagined I ever would or could do.
Always seeing something new that made me sometimes think "wow we are the only people here seeing this" and smiling to myself at how these moments were special.
Finding ourselves in new situations working out how to navigate new locks and tunnels.
Learning about the boat and the canal network. Being amazed at how helpful and friendly people can still be in what seems like an increasinglt selfish world. The human element has been extremely reassuring and comforting. Seeing firsthand the kindness and generosity of spirit the boaters seem to exhibit all the time.
The never ending beauty witnessed from my stern deck as I steer the boat along "the cut" as its called as the canal was literally cut into landscape.
Even in bad weather the scenery is moody and beautiful.
The moments taken to have a beer as my eyes take in all the amazing greenery around us. And then of course another beer just because why not?!
And the things that you don't expect to see that you think are cool and make you smile.
Let it rain for now and feed the greenery as we can emerge and continue our adventure in a few days
I hope everyone is keeping well as there's been a bit of damage here with trees falling and flooding and so forth. We are in a sheltered spot staying warm and feeling good.
The adventure will continue soon!
