Hail to the Hive!

Dahab has changed so much since the last time I was here it is completely unrecognizable. It honestly bares no resemblance to the little dirt road bedouin outpost, backpacker stop over that I remember from 1993.

It got itself big! But you know all you could get here 30 years ago was a glass of tea. No way you’d be getting a cappuccino back then and that’s exactly what I fancied as we strolled along the newly paved promenade.

@millycf1976 looked a little spoiled for choice such was the aray of comfy looking seafront cafes that had replaced the old bedouin, rag rug floored places of yesteryear.

Decisions decisions….

So we eventually had to make a choice and ‘Ali Babas’ seemed appropriate.

It was comfy and seafront, shaded from the desert sun and yet outdoors. A nice vibe. This is my @scubahead approval face with matching @scubahead t shirt.

So we all ordered cappuccinos and some of us ( me) ordered cheesecake as it is my weakness. It really does go well with a coffee.

The coffees all arrived promptly enough yet………. No cheesecake. I couldn’t allow the coffee to go cold and started on it immediately.

It was delicious,rounded and smooth. Not bitter or burned. It was lovely.

So lovely that it was finished before my cheesecake arrived.

So as to not ruin the combo of coffee and cheesecake consumption I ordered another.

I think the coffee got the @millycf1976 approval also.

Now to do battle with this!

I came, I saw, I drank, I ate, I conquered!

Absolutely demolished it and washed down with the second rather lovely cappuccino.

We all chatted happily for a while as the setting was every bit as good as the coffee and cake and we were in no rush. And then all caffeined and sugar loaded we spent the day wandering Dahab until sundown when Ali Baba beckoned us back for dinner….

If only every day could be as care free, coffee loaded and full of sunshine, sunsets and cheesecake. We would have used the term ‘ loafing’ when I was younger to refer to a day of idle bliss such as this. Well, I am happy to be a loafer today that’s for sure.

Also Dahab may have changed enormously but it has retained a funky vibe. And the fact that you can now get great coffee & cheesecake is, in my mind, wonderful. I’m happy that I came back and still loved the place despite it having changed so much.
