DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Waiting Upon The Lord
BIBLE READING:
Psalm 40: 1-17
Qs. 1. See Questions HERE
DISCUSSION:
Note the testimony of the great things God did in the life of david in the past (vs. 1-3). This blessings of answered prayers flow from waiting upon God (v. 1) and trusting in Him alone, never in any man however powerful he may appear to be (v.4; cf. Psalm 146:3-6).
We must worship the Lord with our tithes and offerings but notice the offering that is more desired by our Lord in vs. 6-8. "My ears you have pieced" is a reference to a servant that decides against the offer freedom to serve his master for life (see exodus 21:2-6). The Lord likewise, requires our total obedience and commitment to him more than our offerings (1 Samuel 15:22; Micah 6:6-8).
The troubles we face are often diverse: internal (due to our sins) and external (from a human and spiritual enemies). The solution to either of these is to turn to the Lord in confession and repentance of our sins (v.12) and independence on Him for deliverance from our foes and when we have received His salvation and deliverance we must not keep it to ourselves but 'speak of god's faithfulness and salvation' to all around us (vs. 9-10).
And so:
Do you hold to yourself alone what God did for you or you testify about it.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to praise and worship you in all circumstances.
