This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. Best FPS Single Player Story Games!!

This is a First Person Single Player Story Driven game and the bar for me was set by some of my favorites in the genre which blew me away when I first play them. This most of all is the 1st Half Life Game which was just phenomenal at the time. The story, the graphics, the gameplay, the sound design, the atmosphere, all just so memorable that it remains my best experience in the genre. The other one that comes to mind is the first Halo Game on Xbox which looked awesone for the time and it was the first one really to get the controls on a controller with thumbsticks right. I still remember watching the first demo they showed of The Silent Cartographer level and finally getting to play it when the xbox came out was amazing. I also finished that game and really enjoyed it but never so far played any of the other Halo Games.

I also enjoyed Half-Life 2 but never finished it, and I remember only the beach landing in Medal of Honor along with the Story of Bioshock Infinite which really blew me away while the actual shooting there felt like a drag often. I also remember the first Far Cry game with the island which was beautiful and the open world dropping the usual linear feeling of these games. So the bar was set quite high when I started Metro 2033 Redux.

Metro 2033 Redux (7.0/10)

The Metro games are pure story driven FPS games known for their good graphics and athmosphere. The Redux version of the game is actually a remaster/remake of the original on a new engine and with better graphics. I always was curious about those games and when I saw them for 0.99€ on a discount in the Steam Shop, I bought both of them also because I wanted to test what the steamdeck is capable of graphics wise. At the same time, it felt one of those purchases that was going to be left untouched.

I'm not sure why, but at some point I felt like giving and FPS game with good graphics a chance on my Steamdeck so I installed the first Metro game which is 2033. I guess more than anything, I was curious about the graphics and those did not dissapoint on my steamdeck. Without the need to change any settings, it ran perfectly. At the same time, it felt like the graphics were set nowhere near to the maximum but it never bothered me and it looked and ran great.

So I started playing it, and it quite instantly felt like a game that I enjoyed and could play in short burst of 20 minutes to an hour each time making some progression as it was not too difficult and the controls were quite intuitive along with all the game mechanics.

It was mostly the fun and fluid gameplay that kept me going as I was never really invested or intrigued by the story. There is some kind of nuclear war, there are monsters and some supernatural elements which never captured me. You are a russian guy and society are living in the Metro tunnels to keep safe. I'm not sure why exactly but you are on a mission to go to other parts and settlements of the Metro and in that journey you pretty much encounter monsters while go collect things and always get better guns or upgrade them to get stronger.

So it all was pretty fun an enjoyable until I came to a section where I was on a traincart with a stationary machine gun that had very unintuitive controls of 1 stick controlling the sideways movement and the other the up and down. It was also quite dark and hard to see which made me die a couple times for me to really get frustrated and go "This game is not worth the current wall to break trough" So after around 4.5 Hours of gameplay which got me halfway, I gave up and just uninstalled it to move on.

Conclusion !!

I enjoyed the 4.5 hours of time playing Metro 2033 Redux but a difficult section in the game made me quit and not finish it. I might at some point install and try the sequal of this game as I also bought that or 0.99€. With what I got, I did get well worth for the money I paid and I enjoyed seeing that the steamdeck (for which the game shows Verified) runs it quite smoothly. 7.0/10

Next Up

I'm currently playing the game Downwell on my Steamdeck but I won't wait before I can actually finish it before starting my next game which I'm not quite sure yet what to pick.
