These photos are overlooking Emerald Bay of Lake Tahoe. Emarald Bay was at one time a vacation destination with numerous cabins built down by the lake. However in 1928, Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight bought the land and had a Scandinavian castle built for the enjoyment of her family and friends. The island you see in the pictures is the only island in Lake Tahoe and has a 16 foot by 16 foot teahouse built ontop. You can also see the Emerald colors of the shallow parts of this bay and the reason for it's name. Mrs. Knight thought this area reminded her of the fjords she had seen on numerous travels to Scandinavia.
The overall property cover 239 acres. and in the trees of the shore you can see Vikingsholm. Next the Vikingsholm is an river flowing into Lake Tahoe. Vikingsholm is Scandinavian in design and almost ever piece of wood used inside and out was hand carved. Vikingsholm is now a state park and tours of the castle occur daily.
This is definitely one of California's beautiful places.
