The first recorded signs of a lottery are keno slips from the Chinese Han Dynasty between 205 and 187 BC. These lotteries are believed to have helped to finance major government projects like the Great Wall of China. The first recorded lotteries to offer tickets for sale with prizes in the form of money were held in Europe the 15th century.Lotteries in colonial America played a significant part in the financing of both private and public ventures. It has been recorded that more than 200 lotteries were sanctioned between 1744 and 1776, and played a major role in financing roads, libraries, churches, colleges, canals, bridges, etc.
In the mean time, lotteries are operated at the state level in the U.S.; 44 states and 3 territories operate state lotteries, and the two near-national games Mega Millions and Powerball. In January 2016, Powerball set a record for the largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, with its January 13, 2016 draw having an estimated jackpot of US$1.5 billion.
Other than jackpot lotteries and sweepstakes, The Immigration Act of 1990 established the current and permanent Diversity Visa (DV) program, where 55,000 immigrant visas (later reduced to 50,000) are available in an annual lottery. The lottery aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States, by selecting applicants mostly from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States in the previous five yearsThe first DV lottery, for fiscal year 1995, was named DV-1.
In October 2000, I was hanging out with a friend by the US embassy in Cairo, Egypt where we received a printout about the DV lottery program. Although we both never thought of immigration to US before, we both applied to the lottery that year and every year since then.13 Years later, I won the DV lottery when immigration to US was my first dream, if I was asked choose between winning 2 million $ lottery or DV lottery, I would pick the DV lottery with no hesitation. God! it was a happy day for me, I was happy to the level I wasn't able to think or to talk to anyone, I had to make sure I wasn't dreaming, I prayed if it was a dream not to wake me up, yes to that level!
After coming to US and working in cancer research in one of the top 10 public universities in US living my dream, I was introduced by a friend to bitcoin and cryptocurrency, I didn't take it seriously in the beginning , honestly I made fun of him, warned him from losing his money online based on my previous experience of losing 1000$ in an online forex trading website!
But he seemed convinced and hard to push back, so I listened to him, it was my first time to know about cryptocurrency mining which sounded very interesting to me but I was still afraid to repeat my old online experience, so I spent the following week just reading and watching reports about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Now I'm investing about 10.000$ in cryptocurrency and willing to invest more in the future, keeping in mind that risk is always there in any kind of business and I'm willing to take the risk!
If you read and studied enough about cryptocurrency and you still don't think it will be the economy of the future, you need to think again!
