The green dream tends to get a bit ridiculous. I don't mind it at all when there is common sense involved.
In California, around 2016, they pressured PG&E to stop re-licensing their nuclear power plant. PG&E gave up and made plans to start decommissioning in 2024 and 2025. Almost immediately after PG&E made the announcement, the very groups of people who wanted the plant shutdown became alarmed as communities would lose almost a billion per year in tax revenue and decommissioning started.
Now, these same communities suddenly realized this year that nuclear power generate no green house gases. So, the CA legislature recently passed emergency legislation to keep the power plant running. Since the state is directing PG&E to keep the plant running, they provided 1.4 billion in forgivable loans to pay for relicensing and maintenance needed to continue operation.
All the state had to do was let the power plant relicense in 2016. Don't even get me started on Gov Newsome. He signed a bill into law that will start banning gas vehicles and requiring purchases of electric vehicles. Shortly after the bill went into law, Cal ISO started sending out notices to customers asking them to conserve energy for the summer heat waves.
