It was raining hard. The raindrops made everything invisible and to add to the confusion, Gangadattan the frog could see only the back sights like all frogs can. He couldn't sight the danger ahead.
The one advantage he did have was the small cave-like enclosure where he was hidden and this was inside the lotus pond. He wanted so much to come to the surface and make sure his girlfriend was safe. She had gone for a meeting with her female friends.
He could never understand the females. Why did they have to talk so much? What did they have to talk about anyway? Did they discuss him or was it about the weather? He was sure they did not bother discussing the weather. He was glad that they were born as frogs. Being humans meant he would have to dish out loads of that paper money for her dresses and jewels.
His thoughts came to a halt when he heard the cry. It was a pitiful cry of a frog being caught by a snake. He hoped it was not her. He swam above in spite of the danger and looked around. He felt a pat and saw that his girl was safe. They both went inside the cave again and she said that the snake had caught a huge toad but then it had escaped it seems.
He told her that she should not frequent the girls' meeting when the weather was bad and there would be no warnings and she agreed.
The skies cleared and the pond was still again, reflecting the moonlight once again.
