I believe it was about a year ago now since we got the Frontier Mode. It is a full Free2Play experience that allows players to participate in the game with zero investment, but still be able to earn cards that they can use to play Modern ranked or trade to other players to earn some bucks. And now, after about a year since the Mode was introduced, we are now getting 8 new cards in Frontier that will introduce new gameplay synergies to it.
But that is not all because these new cards were inspired by some of the streamers, creators, and community members who continue to support the game all this time. This batch of cards is called The Arena Vanguard, which will consist of 8 new cards.

The Arena Vanguard has 8 cards on it, 7 of which are rare units, while the other one is a Legendary Archon, the much-awaited Dragon Archon, because until just recently, Frontier Mode had no Archon, so even when Dragon was an available element in the ruleset, players were not able to play any dragon team. But if you think that is already cool, this Dragon Archon is currently the only Archon in Frontier that will have tactics.
The Legendary Archon Aurendrak can give 1 unit either the Flank ability that will allow a melee unit next to it to have the Reach ability, or can give it the Void ability so that it can reduce the damage that the unit receives from magic attacks.
Aside from the Archon, 7 new cards were also included in the Arena Vanguard, all of which are of the Rare rarity. Aside from the rare water unit that costs 9 mana to use and the legendary Archon with an 8 mana cost, all of the Arena Vanguard have 2-digit mana costs, so they might not be that easy to use, but looking at their stats and abilities, they look to be a really good addition to the Frontier gameplay.
Also, since I was able to grab black foil images of these cards, it means that these cards will have their black foil counterparts, perhaps even Gold Foil Arcane and Black Foil Arcane. But it is currently unclear how they can be obtained. Maybe we can learn more about it as the cards continue to roll out.
Instead of including the new cards in packs that we had in the Foundation set, the cards under the Arena Vanguard will be distributed throughout the Splinterlands ecosystem through streamer giveaways, community initiatives, Lux’s Favor Wheel Spin, and the Spark Shop. The cards will be limited, but players will have several ways to chase them.
You can not acquire the new cards in this method since it was a wheel spin with different prizes available on it. But you do not need to spend anything to participate in this method and just need to log in daily to get your free wheel spin.
If you do not have the luck to acquire the cards through wheel spin, you can just buy these cards directly in the Sparks shop by spending your Sparks tokens. That said, only 6 of the cards will be available here, and they cost 30,000 Sparks for a single copy of the card. The cards that were available in the shop were also limited to 300 copies, so they can be easily sold out if players have saved enough Sparks for the cards.

Another method that you can use to get these cards is to watch featured Arena Vanguard Streamers and Content Creators either through Twitch, X, and maybe even here on Hive. This is by far the easiest method if you want to grab these cards and want to grab them as fast as you can. So far, the featured streamers include iBlast Arcade, OFG Plays, Ehmaywuntee, Mickvir, Buns Bags and Caps, and King Arminus, but additional creators may also be announced as the card rollout continues.
The new Arena Vanguard cards look to be a good addition to the Frontier Mode. You can not use them all the time, but when you do, I think it will be fun. Even though these cards were only capped at silver level, I can see that they can fill some niche in modern too when used correctly. And from a collector's point of view, I feel like these cards will be something that other collectors may not want to miss out on because, compared to the other foundation cards, the art on these cards is certainly a step up.
