Hello, there!
@saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
As someone who is a regular player on the Champion leaderboard, some people may think that I have a really strong deck and have most, if not all, of the cards in the game. But despite what they think, my deck is not really that strong, and there are a lot of holes in it that other players can exploit to their advantage. I can even say that my deck was probably the weakest among the leaderboard players. Still, I can win more than half of my battles, reason why my rating continues to go up, and eventually become part of the leaderboard.
But today, I will lay out all the clear weaknesses of my deck, and maybe by doing so, maybe players who were playing in the lower leagues may be encouraged to compete in Champion, and for Champion players to better utilize their deck.
Laying Out My Deck's Weakness
First, let's go with the Archons. As we all know, the Archons are a very vital part of the game, as it allows players to summon their units, so without them, you cannot even start playing the game. Right now, there are a total of 33 Archons that are playable in Modern ranked, and 3 more will come in the coming months through Escalation Conflicts. But as you can see, among those 33 Archons, only 5 of them were available in my deck.
And if we take a look at it more closely, you can see that I do not have any Earth Element Archons, so whenever there are battles where only the Earth element is available, my only option is to surrender.
At the same time, among the Archons that I could play, most of them were Legendary Archons, and Fithe Bladestone was my only rare Archon, which made me completely unable to fight whenever Fallen Legends was an active ruleset and the Fire element was not an active element. At the very least, this ruleset only affects Archons, so I can still use legendary units.
The same goes for Little League ruleset, because among my Archons, only Fithe Bladestone was the Archon that didn't cost more than 4 mana. However, in this case, I also can't use units that cost more than 4 mana, so that further limits the variety of cards that I can use.
Junior Varsity ruleset, on the other hand, was a little more lenient because it restricts the use of units with more than 6 mana. Because of that, so long as both Fire and Dragons were available elements, I can use either Fithe Bladestone or Akane. And if I use Akane, I can choose units from any of the active elements, since she is a Dragon Archon.
Moving on, as I do not have the majority of the Conclave Arcana Archons, then I am missing the most of the Bloodline Dominion mechanics, where Archons can summon units outside of the element that they belong to, as long as they share the same Bloodline, while also getting additional abilities for the units.
That also means that I am missing a lot when it comes to the Bloodline Tribute and Bloodline Pact abilities.
Now, if you take a look at my units, you can see that I only have max-level 16 units from the core, promo, and mini-set of Rebellion and Conclave Arcana. I have some units that are under-leveled, but the majority of them can't really be used against Champion cards, and I will likely not be able to use them once Brackets are implemented in Modern Ranked.
The only reason that I am able to compete is because of my reward cards, though if you take a look, many of them are also not maxed out, and when it comes to Rebellion rewards, the unbinding period has already ended, so it is almost impossible for me to complete them. Conclave Arcana rewards, I still have some time to complete them, but the Glint cost of reward draws and chests was significantly increased, so it's still not known if I can fully maxed them out.
Closing
So, those were the main weaknesses of my deck. But despite those weaknesses, I can still play the game quite competitively, and as of now, I even manage to once again break my highest rating in Modern ranked, which is absolutely crazy to think of, given that I have a very limited set of cards I can use.
Maybe if I can get my hands on more Archons and units, then I can probably soar a lot higher, but with the current liquidity of Modern cards, that will be difficult, so I am just happy that I can play competitively, despite having lots of handicaps.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
