For some time I keep asking myself what happens to the brain when we fall asleep over the night and its very funny the way the brain functions in the 'dream world'.
Just like when we feel;
- Imaginations inside our heads.
- We do not hibernate and still dream about our surroundings.
- Our sleep evolve.
- Alcohol gives the vivid dreams.
This is all due to the fact that the brain is still active during our sleep and when we dream. The activity of the brain while dreaming comes from the stem of the CORTEX.
Most dream occurs during REM when we sleep.Rem is the act of rapid eye movements with the eyes when we sleep partially. That is why when people sleep walk it feel has if they are fully awake but it is due to the control of the reticular activating system; whose circuits run from the brain stem through the thalamus (i.e. The thalamus is a paired gray structure located near the center of the brain)to the cortex.
The mid-brain deals with the emotions of dreaming and also walking which is been identified has the LIMBIC SYSTEM. These includes; the amygdala which is associated with the fear that occurs in our mind and controls high pressure of blood flow through the arteries. Its just like a quick electric force that its been passed on into the heart of every human. Amygdala occurs mostly in dreams. An eamples is; when you dose off on a chair and it feels like you are falling from a very high tower then you wake up with sudden shock. This is due to the shock from the amygdala when we dream.
The cortex is also responsible for the contents of dream, including the people we meet especially when its someone new or a guy or lady you just meet and you really like, the flee of monster imaginations, or the act of experiencing high fall inside your bed or flying. The visual cortex is at the right back of the brain and always active mostly when the body is been stressed out through the day activities.
Some parts of the frontal lobes and the cortex may explain why we can be so uncritical during dreams or rem, accepting the events or activities as through they are real not until we weak up from the sleep or active back.
Conclusion
Most time when we dream and it feels like its so real; most times its just the collection of things the brain stored from time to time and trying to adjust its self to its comfort zone and get ready for another active information.
Who am I
