She lived on top of the mountain little Snow White, queen of winter. She wore silver shoes on her legs, was covered in a white cloak sprinkled with snow stars, and wore an ice cap on her head that flowed in countless colors when the sun's rays fell on her.
The queen of winter was not cold at the top of the mountain. She slept in a snowy nest, roaming naked in the snow, bobbing all day with snowflakes, riding around the lake on a black, sad-headed bird. As Snow White was very small, she could sit comfortably on her lap.
They landed on that lake and other birds, wild ducks and geese, but they were too small to serve the little queen of winter instead of boats. Often, Snezana thought why a black bird was sad, why it always shakes its head, and once asked:
My black boat, why are you always so sad?
"Little Queen, I'm too excited right now and I can't tell you what bothers me," said the bird at last, "but by the time you come to the shore again, you will hear."
All day Snow White was restless, barely waiting for the night to fall. When it got dark, she went to the shore of the lake where the black bird was already waiting. Hidden in the night, she confessed silently to the queen of winter.
Everything around me is white: and the trees, and the sky, and the beasts, and you, little queen, have only been me since the night of the nigger. That's why I'm sad.
Hearing this, Sžana happily said:
When that's your only trouble, boat, don't worry! I'll make you white too. Head to the middle of the lake tonight and wait.
After this, the Queen went to the ice tower among the rocks, where the Silver Star, the mother of all snowflakes, lived. She could have commanded her, but the Silver Star was very old, so Snowy asked her kindly:
“Good Silver Star, you who still weave my mother's clothes, send a bird tonight standing in the middle of a lake a flock of snowflakes and cover them forever with her black feathers. Make tomorrow all white as the snow of my throne.
So she prayed to Snow White, and the black bird waited trembling in the middle of the lake. When, at midnight, the dream overtook the bird, she laid her head on her lap, and remained so still. And at that moment a flock of snowflakes fell and a snowstorm fell, and in an instant it turned white as snow on the throne of the queen of winter.
In the morning, Snezana notices that the white swan, the first in the world, is floating on the water. The others were born and died afterwards, but the former still lives and drives the Snow Queen of Winter in the same lake.
