My response to this weeks contest of @indiaunited.
Dear Future Me,
Heow are you? And how is life treating you in general? If you’re reading this, please note that a whole year has passed. I’m writing you from the middle of rainy season July 2026, for three solid weeks, it has been a non-stop rain, no sun, and a lot of noise in my head.
I want to remind you of my goal for last year and how far I have gone with it. I set goals at the start of 2026 and most of them are going well. I’ve been faithful with saving. My relationship is growing stronger and healthy. I’m making time for my children and fot my family, and I’ve kept exercise as part of my life. God has been faithful.
But I also need to tell you where I lack behind. Because of life challenging situations I face in 2026, I completly forgot about me. Life problems got taught that I allow them take over me, to the point I stopped giving myself the “baby girl treatment.” I stopped resting, laughing, and enjoying the life I’m working so hard to build. I got used to crying to God and telling myself “I’m fine” even when I'm not.
One year from now, I hope that when you open this letter, you can say, “I did better at choosing me.” I hope you still have your savings, and that they’ve grown. I hope your relationship is stronger, and more peaceful. I hope you and your kids have more joyful memories and deep connection.
I hope exercising is still part of your daily routine. And I hope you learned to rest. To buy yourself good stuffs. To say no when you need to. And to enjoy yourself.
Never you forget 2026 lessons and carry it into 2027.
You are not what you carry. Just because people see you as “strong” doesn’t mean you don’t have problems. It’s okay to talk. It’s okay to cry.
Sharing lightens the load. That one conversation with a friend taught me I’m not alone. Keep choosing reliable and trusted people.
Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Make do of what you have, and remember that during these three weeks of downpour in July 2026, no sun, we still did a shadowhunt.
My dear future Me, I don’t know what the next 12 months will bring. There will be rain and there will be sun. There will be responsibilities and there will be joy. But in all continue being that strong woman, hardworking woman who always look out for others regardless your own circumstances.
But please promise me thiat you will not abandon yourself again. That you will keep saving, keep loving your family, also keep loving yourself and keep choosing joy. You deserve the “baby girl treatment” all year, not just on special days. And that you will do all these and more for yourself.
I’m proud of you for making it to this point. I strongly believe in you. And please, be kind to yourself. Be hopeful. And keep pushing.
With love, from @sarahbaby 15th July 2026 Lagos Nigeria.
