Last night I had a dinner meeting with developers in the old town and decided to walk by the Cathedral as it was the opening day of the Christmas Market which lasts until Christmas Eve.
I used to go there with my folks and brothers when I was a kid but had not been there for quite a few years. There are around 300 small booths where you can purchase "real" trees and all kinds of decorations for the tree and for the nativity set many families still set up at the house. It is nice to see there are places where you can still purchase a real tree and not fake ones, although, from a sustainability standpoint, a fake may last several years, you can also recycle real ones after having them at home for a few days, and to me, there is no other choice than a real one.
One of the king decorations was of course the local Tio tradition, a small wood log with a painted face which children hit with a stik on Christmas Eve to get some candy.
On my way back home, the place was already empty as everything was closed to open early today again but I stumbled upon a group of gospel singers which made me stop for a while and watch. It was nice to feel the spirit of Christmas while listening to some of the songs
Just when I decided to head back home after listening to the gospel group, I happened to listen to a violin from far away. Decided to approach the place behind the cathedral where the sound was coming from and could not help to stay listening to this guy for more than 30 minutes playing several classic songs as Primavera by Vivaldi.
Just sitting there, listening to the music close by at night was like joining a little concert for only a few of us, I enjoyed every one of those 30 minutes and walked to get my car through the center streets still hearing those melodies in my head for a while. The night could not have ended in a better way.
