On the occasion of Women's day, she wanted me to take her out on a casual drive and enjoy an ice cream at Baskin Robins and then do some little shopping , pick up a dress from a boutique , our daughter wanted to eat at KFC, the boy was at home preparing for his next exam. Even though she is quite fit to buy ready made dresses, for some reason she likes to get it stitched and that is where I have problem. The fabric, the stitching cost, the time, the petrol all clubbed together is much higher - more than 4-5k. It's just that she does not realize it, as she pays in chunks at different times. Sometimes, she will feel the dress is not stitched properly, and she will go again and again to get that fixed, so the cost of that gets higher and higher. Many a times, I tried to convince her to go and buy ready made dress - you can easily get pretty good brands at big malls in 4-5k, try it and all set. But she still has that old school mentality - I don't blame her for that, as many of our generation will have a little of that. The problem starts when she repeatedly goes to fix the stitching - after coming back she would agree not to go again, but then she forgets that after a while. She was going to a place since her childhood and last time they had so severe arguments that, she decided to quit that place. Instead, she managed to find out a new boutique where we went but it was the same story - the outcome did not match her expectation, and it needed some adjustment, and we were asked to come back after a hour.
Many times we have had arguments over this, and of late, I am trying not to be angry, or irritated, knowingly. The funny reason of it is that I express my anger and quite easily forget soon - few hours after if you ask me, I won't even remember. But the impact on her stays longer - she is very emotional and then you know, how it comes back 😀
Instead I am trying to focus on things, that will make me happy, be they very small little things like Baskin Robins - reminded me that scene from 3 idiots movie.
In search of finding happiness in bigger accomplishments, we get lost, without realizing how much damage it does to us. I have gone through it in my life, planning big, working for a long time to fulfill that, and then failing because people for whom I worked changed their path. So of late I realize, Mindfulness practice to discover happiness in small little things that's part of our daily life, can only help to control our anxiety and lead a better life, especially at this age. More to come on such practices as a minimalist - I could never do meditation or yoga but I consider these practices as some kind of meditation to control my brain.
