There are certain things that are always organic
Whenever I go to my native, I collect all that available there and bring in. It takes some time and a little hard work to make them ready. But the effort is worth because they are all natural and organic. In fact most of the items that I bring in are organic by default. In a way that, unless they are commercially grown, its all natural as people won't give any fertilizers in general.
Recognize this ? Yam or lesser yam in specific, this is one of the tastiest yams. Usually we do not get this one in the market and instead get the long ones. Ever ate them or know a recipe ? Boil it and make a fritter and its no less than meat. Mom puts it in the soil every year, and they are ready next year without a lot of effort. However, we have to dig a bit. She went alone to dig it but the I stopped her and took that work and then she gave the fine touch.
She knows which part to cut and which part to put in the soil again. Slowly, this knowledge is going to be extinct in our family. And then there were curry bananas.
But it was at such a height that I had to take that special high tool made for all such kind of purpose.
Cut down two bunches and kept very few there and brought rest of all.
And whenever I am there, I would be behind him - ensure he does walk few rounds. Mom is saying, he does not listen to her and do not walk on a regular basis. In fact she says he never listened to her in her entire life, but probably that is a very generic feelings most women have, if not all 😀 So I make sure, he at least walks when I am there, whatever best can be done !!
This is another skill that is going to be extinct - coconut peeling. Mom knows or then I - nobody else would do this. It is easy to buy them from market, but then putting a little extra effort and consuming our own has a different twist - all these coconuts fall from the tree when matured. So they are fully grown and tastier than what we get from market. May be I will publish a video on the peeling technique, but it's a bit risky. One other option would be hire someone and peel a lot at one go but then consuming them is a challenge. So after few hours of effort all my natural things were ready - I literally shave the coconuts so that its easy to use - perfectionist.
And then the apple berries - Mom already had a lot ready for me, but then they are rapidly ripe as their end of season has come.
This much I got - kept some for us and distributed to four families here - they remember and ask for it specifically every year. In fact, this is a very unique tasty apple berry as its all sweet, no sourness at all. We tried so many times to grow another plant (by drafting ) but never could succeed. So we have cut that house to preserve the tree.
By the time I left, Mom had packed curry leaves and Chili and to my surprise when I went to pack the coconuts, they were all broken.
Can you see the marks ? This was an entire new lesson in life. Mom said, because they were matured, and we peeled off them, they broke automatically in heat, as they day was little hot and they were kept outside. And then what to do with them ? She said to keep them fridger and you won't believe, my wife could not spot any mark the next day, after keeping them fridge. Fun, isn't it ? Learning never ends. Interestingly when she broke one of them, it was easily broken and she feels it broke based on where those marks were there. So the finally theory is that they shrink, making the marks disappear, but in actual, they are there. But then why do not the water come out ? Quite an interesting fun. And before we wrap this, I must include one more naturally organic item.
I have made friendship with the neighbor to our apartment and if you remember last year, he gave us lot of mangoes. This year, the society supervisor cut down his mango tree and there was lot of arguments for that sake. Personally I felt, there was no reason to cut those big branches. But then they cut it when there was no body around. The Drumstick tree has got its branches to our side, and is full of drumsticks. This one is pretty special in the sense that, the bigger it grows , the tastier it is - unlike the usual smaller ones. Quite fleshy and I am a big fan of it, because this has a lot of benefits for the liver. So on the menus almost every day, till it's available. And the red soil probably helps a bit. I went to their house to give the apple berries and then one morning he called me and gave so much that, I had to distribute a bit. But once they were over, I went and plucked myself. Again, its not that you will not get it in market, but we will not get the same special variety and fresh from the tree. And this is one tree, that does not grow well in my native - Mom has tried it so many times, but it just does not grow. There is a saying - not all trees grow by everyone. Usually whatever she puts grows well, but then this one is the only exception for her to remember for life. You cannot have everything you desire in life.
