I must be 10 years old when I lost my favourite gold earring. I was a naughty Tom boyyish 10 year old who didn't realise that the screw of my earring was not placed right. When I realised that I had lost one out of the pair, I started searching for it frantically and even reported it to the school authorities, but then who would return a gold earring even if found.

Devastated, I came home with one earring packed in my bag and my mom went bonkers. She couldn't digest that her daughter has lost GOLD earring. She called every human being she could to tell them about my adventures. My dad came home fuming and I got the best lesson on how to manage my earrings. I promise, I am super scared of loosing earrings even today.
The school I went to didn't allow fancy imitation jewellery. So my mom, to assure that I didn't loose it again, came up with a unique idea. She took me to the jeweller and got me tiny hoops which she fixed permanently on my ears. Now, I couldn't loose it even if I wanted to. It stayed with me through college until I felt that I couldn't flaunt it more. I begged my mom to let me change the earrings and I am glad she obliged. We went and got the earrings removed and I got the studs that I have been wearing since then. It had been ages for that incident but I still fear loosing earring and I still hate hoops.
