There is no shortage of debates on parenting over the internet. One among the many other parenting debate topics is, do working parents have understanding /independent kids ? I am not a working mother. I stay at home 24*7 cook, help and look after my kids. I can say my kids are totally dependent on me. They won't be able to manage a day or a half without me. Contrary to that, my friend who takes dance classes has a son who can manage everything since he was 7 years old. He can cook, clean the house and even do the laundry. This actually makes me wonder if this has something to do with my parenting skills or is it about me not working ?

I thought I will look for answers at home and went to my mom with my concern. She, like always, was with her grandsons and told me that I was even more pathetic then her godly grandsons are. She questioned if I am not responsible now, and if I am then I need to be sure that her grandsons are going to be much better. This was like 'shooting oneself on the foot'. So I went to a aunt who was working and now has a working son. She has a different story to tell.
She was working and climbing the career ladder. When her son was born she got her maternity leave, but had to join office soon after. Her son grew up at her maternal home and she missed his growing up years. Though she would reach to him at night, but he would usually be tired then. Her son was taught to be independent by her parents because they were old. She now says, her son is emotionally detached, loves his grandparents more than his parents and wants to marry a girl who would quit her career when she has kids.
She told me it totally depends on ones choice. I am still not sure about my kids, but it gave me an insight about, 'no matter what you do, there would be something that you have missed upon'.
