Greetings!
When I was a kid, there's little I knew about life and this is because I was only learning from those that have grown up, I mean the adults around me which made me depend on them and whatever instruction that they gave me to do. So, then, I was not myself per se, I was what the adults around me asked me to do and maybe that's why I was not penalised for all my offences back then.
Having said so much about the life of a kid and that of an adult, I would like to delve into the topic in the Hive learners community which is all about, “Juvenile Justice.”
As for me, I would like a kid or kids to be treated as a kid and adults as adults in any situation that has to do with both of them respectively and this is because, a kid would always remain a kid and there's nothing to be done about that.
So, to punish a kid for an offence committed as a kid in the form or way an adult would be punished, would be like abusing them and their right under the law and this is because there's no kid with his or her own mind.
One thing that I have noticed so far in life is that any act of a kid is always subjected to the command of their parents and aside from this most of the acts of a kid are what he or she learnt from his or her parents and that's why good parenting is needed to make a good kid or child, so, why should a kid be punished for what he or she has no control over? Why should a kid suffer for what he or she was commanded by his or her parents to do?
To, it would be like a cheat on a kid if the same measure of punishment given to an adult is being meted on him or her and this because of their innocence on so of the things they might be accused of.
Instead of them being punished like an adult, I think they should be punished the way a kid is to be punished, by this, they would be corrected the way they should and even, everything is not about punishment, but with good advice and love they, the kid can be corrected from their bad deeds and this is because letting them know that what they have done is bad can go a long way in correcting them as some of them don't even know when they are wrong.
In conclusion, I'm of the opinion that if a kid should be punished, the punishment should be minimal to what a kid can take, it should not be like that of an adult and I will also suggest that any offence being committed by a kid should be probed and if it's at the command of his or her parents, the parents should be held responsible.
This is my entry to the week 231, episode 03 of the weekly featured contest in the Hive learners community.
