We Indians are highly obsessed over skin color. Sadly, fair for us is beautiful and facial features hardly matters when the skin tone is fair. Girls take extra care of their fair skin. Expecting mother's are fed saffron to bleach the fetus skin much before it has breathed in the fresh air of this world. Mother's try all home remedies on their dark skinned daughters to make it a shade lighter so that someone could marry them.

With education, the condition is changing and people have started accepting darker skin tones also or so they say. But, the matrimonial sites really make me doubt if the change is actually real. Every Sunday there is a special edition in the newspaper that had the list of prospective brides and grooms and their expectations and all that I get to see is fair or wheatish skinned girls or wanted a girl having fair or wheatish skin. What about dark or brown skin?
While majority of people in the country worship goddess Durga who is seen with a darker skin tone, nobody sees a darker skin women with same respect. Is skin color that important? Does a girls qualities of no use when her skin tone is dark? Why do girls mention their skin tone as fair or wheatish even when they are dark? Aren't they comfortable in their own skin?
When we girls ourself don't love our skin tone how do we expect the world to love it?
