I painted this a few weeks ago outdoors on location in an area called Hawea Flat in the south island of New Zealand where I live. I've been doing a lot of outdoor painting lately and I have started to include animals in my paintings.
It was a beautiful evening for painting with soft light that emphasised the vibrant colours in the fields and mountains. I really liked the cows in the fields too, so I added them in my painting. I painted this art work in oils.
