After a very long & testing six months, marked by the full moon, today was indeed a special day. For those of you who don't already know, I live in the South of France but have been in Yorkshire all Summer documenting the construction of the UK's most advanced solar farm, using a drone and a bunch of time-lapse techniques. Time-lapse is my 'thing'.
The company responsible, Gridserve is run by two brothers who I went to school with at the age of seven and for thirty years I've been making films for their family. I am grateful to them because they have enabled me to travel the world doing what I love. And they always challenge me creatively.
The image above is actually from yesterday when they had one little section left to do, barely visible in the distance.
From this angle you can see what they had left to do today.
I couldn't repeat the epic sunset shot today because it was grey and raining.
It basically rained all day but this didn't stop the mostly Bulgarian workers who had it down to a fine art and were moving at an incredible pace, like their lives depended on it.
I imagine one or two people will get their bonuses because they finished on schedule.
The last module
I was asked yesterday if I could film & photograph the last module being fitted, so headed out at 11am (despite the rain) to see how they were doing and ended up staying with them till they finished at 3pm, chatting and laughing with those who spoke english.
I got very wet & muddy but it didn't matter. Today was a special day.
I used the waterproof GoPro to get the required shots.
Here they are placing the very last one.
They were fitting around 5000 modules a day for three weeks. An incredible achievement.

I almost told them to 'be happy' at the end and show some emotion for the camera, but I didn't need to.
Some moments don't need to be scripted.
So, there you have it.
My film is looking great and those who are paying me to be here seem happy.
Which is also great!
But I am very excited now to get back home to the Pyrenees Mountains, the outskirts of our little village seen here.
And even more excited to be back with my glorious kids again, playing and teaching them about the world in which we live.
And let's not forget my incredible & beautiful partner Sabrina of course.
She has lost weight while I have been away because she holds down two jobs and looks after two highly energetic kids. Without me there this is one heck of an achievement and I really take my hat off to her.
She has the spirit of a warrior & the heart of a mother and I will forever be grateful to the Universe for ensuring that I sat down on the right bus that fateful day in Thailand.
The future I have in mind for us is too beautiful to describe with simple human words.
