What a great post! I see this a lot between my 2 boys, aged 8 and 10. The younger one idolises his older brother and will literally do anything to get to spend more time with him or fall in favour with him. He wants the same clothes as his brother and will often ask us to buy or order him "whatever Oli is having". If I wind back the clock, I can remember as a teen going through some of these emotions and feelings with respect to sports stars, pop stars and film stars that graced our screens. Wanting to identify with them in some way shape or form. As a mature adult I now look up to people for completely different reasons and agree that it is those who stick with us through the difficult and uncomfortable times that are our most worthy companions in life. They are the ones who ride life's bumpy roads together with us, doing their best to help us to cushion the blows. They are the ones who are prepared to have the difficult conversations with us, that sometimes neither wants to have, but may be necessary at the time. When things get uncomfortable, they sit in discomfort with us. They don't leave us to fight the awkwardness alone.
