The movie Uprising tells the story about how a dangerous plague brought about the division of the wealthy and the poor to the point where the poor finally revolted against their oppressors. It follows the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt where King Richard II imposes extreme hash taxes on everyday people who are already suffering and trying to patch things up with regard to the harsh conditions of things.

Andrew Garfield plays the main character as a simple plowman (which is also the name he goes by in the movie) who becomes pained and initiates the Rebellion.

There are also other rebellion groups in other parts of England who are also victims of the unfair treatment of those in power.

To start with, I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like Andrew Garfield has a thing for movies based on real true life stories. He did it on Hacksaw Ridge, The Social Network, Artificial, and now The Uprising. And to be honest, I think he is really fit for those kind of roles.

Now into the movie, I think it was a good one. I love how the storyline portrays as the backstory of the Robin Hood franchise. It’s the typical kind of film about battle between the rich and the poor. Andrew played his role perfectly as usual. But I kind of fill like us in on much info concerning his character. For instance, throughout the movie he was only referred to as the plowman.

He symbolizes the peasant state of the land, and the people’s earnest heart cry for justice and to be treated fairly. He did quite a great performance in the movie. The camera movement was also quite impressive.

There were a few aspects of the movie which had a rather unexpected twist. The first is the King character, who oversaw the affairs of the land. At first, I had this impression that he was a good guy, who was being influenced and controlled negatively by his subordinates. I thought he actually cared about the affairs of the land but was under a magical spell which prevented him from doing the right thing.

But it became pretty clear that wasn’t the case when his subordinates were slaughtered and yet he still proceeded with the evil they had left off. I was like “why?” It just didn’t make any sense to me and did not seem necessary.

The ending was also not satisfying enough to me. The needs of the peasants despite all their plea was not met and there was no justice for the innocent lives of those that all they wanted was to be treated like humans.
But since is more of a backstory of Robin Hood then I guess it’s cool.

It was an average of too hours but still they managed not to make it feel boring to the viewers. I did enjoy the movie and would totally recommend it. I give the movie a rating of 7/10.
