There are many problems that come to people that can easily be solved by just knowing what to do and doing it. Wisdom is the ability of someone to leverage on their knowledge, understanding of the world, or their past experiences, to take decisions in the present or to make judgements or proffer solutions to life's problems. The reason why humans are given a mind and the ability to think rationally is to become more self-reliant.

If humans can simply apply wisdom to the areas of their lives that they just sit and wish for it to be solved, they will discover that they actually have the key to solving their own problems and the problems of the world. The truth is that the whole world is getting more complex as the days go by and for you to effectively feature in this highly complex world, you have to put the part of you that is highly complex to good use - your brain. You will agree with me that there is no limit to which the human mind can create and conceive things. This is basically the reason why we humans are regarded as the "Homo sapiens" - the thinking man. This reminds me of the words of one of my highly respected mentors:
Divinity gave humanity brain in order for humanity to give divinity rest.
In this present world, a lot of things can influence the way we reason; like our environment, our belief, etc. So you will need an extensive application of wisdom in order to balance up everything. For example; that you belief in a particular school of thought, does not mean that you will swallow everything "hook, line and sinker," you also need to apply wisdom in certain things. A lot of people have run into problems simply because they allowed their heart to dictate the pace for them without bringing in the brain on the scene. Even if you are to follow your heart (your emotions, sentiment, feeling, etc), do not forget the place of your brain - wisdom.
There are times that you will need to make some quick, split-second decisions that you may not have enough time to even make research about it. This is why we should live each day building up ourselves for tomorrow. A lot of ways abound, that can help one to build up themself and grow in wisdom. Like reading, learning, experimentation, relating with people, etc. The truth is that the more you read and learn, the more you open up your mind to the infinite possibilities in the world. More so, the more you interact with people and rub minds intelligently with them, you will grow in wisdom.

The true worth of wisdom and the evidence of it is in its application. Obviously, there is no way that one can prove their level of wisdom until it can be applied in a real life scenario or used to solve a real life problem or situation. One of my mentors shared an experience with us on the same subject matter of wisdom. He was supervising the construction of a very large structure. The construction was going well. Then it got to a point when they needed to bring in a crane inside the structure for a particular work that needed to be done.
However, there was a challenge. The height of the crane was more than the entrance of of the structure and it posed a serious challenge for the workers there. If the crane was to be forced into the structure, it would break the top of the entrance of the structure and may even crack the other parts, thereby costing heavily to be fixed. Being confused about the next line of action to take, they beckoned on my mentor. He then asked them the exact measurement of the height of the entrance, and he was told. Then he asked for the height of the crane, which he was told. He simply got the difference between the two heights.
What he did shocked everyone. He got the tyres of the crane and asked them to deflate it. When it is done, he asked them to remeasure the crane. They discovered that it was now shorter than the entrance. He asked them to tow in the crane inside with deflated tyres, once it has entered, they inflated the tyres and used it to work. After working, they deflated the tyres and towed it out and inflated it back.
This was a practical application of wisdom. If not, they may have ended up destroying the structure. The need to apply wisdom. Obviously, this is part of the reasons we are humans.
