Blessed are the merciful, for they will get mercy in return.
The above is an excerpt from the Holy Book and holds truism in life. It is the mercy that you show to people that qualifies you to receive mercy in return. The truth is that mercy is not right but it is kind. That is, if you want to be right at all times and to seek for justice at all cost, then it will reduce your heart of mercy. Of course, mercy simply means pardoning someone for something that they did that require punishment. Simply put; it is an act of not giving someone the deserving punishment for a misdeed. Obviously, as humans are not perfect, everyone has erred in certain ways and this is why mercy is important to be shown to others, because you are also a product of mercy.

It is true that everyone will wish for mercy to be shown to them, but in all honesty, how many people have you shown mercy to? Some people are quick to dish out judgement and punishment for every offence and it had made them lose their humanity greatly. It is not everything that judgement has to prevail, you can allow mercy to also prevail. If you will not show mercy to others, do not expect others to show mercy to you. Story was told of a young man that was driving along the road in his Corrolla and suddenly, a man on tricycle (popularly called "Keke" in this part of the world) hit him mistakenly from the back and scratched the paint of his back bumper a bit.
When the man came down to inspect the car, he saw the dent and insisted that the Keke man must pay for the repairs. Even when the Keke man explained that it was an error and that the little money on him was what he would use to buy food for the family and that he cannot afford extra money, he insisted and threatened him. Out of fear, the Keke man used the only money he had to fix the man's car. How unmerciful. What the car man did not know was that the people that were watching the scene were very displeased at how cruel he was to the Keke man.
A few days after the incident, he was driving in his Corolla and mistakenly, he ran into a parked Range Rover when he mistook the accelerator for break. When he came out to see the level of damages, sadly the back of the Range Rover was badly damaged and would require a lot of money to be fixed. Coincidentally, the owner of the Range Rover is a guy that was at the scene of his ordeal with the Keke man, who was displeased with him. Since he did not show the Keke man mercy during his own, so he should not expect mercy for his own errors. Just as you would guess, the Range Rover owner made sure he paid the full money for the repairs of his car the same way he did to the Tricycle rider. This goes to prove that how you treat others will be exactly the same way you should be expected to be treated.

You will agree with me that you will be quick to help the people that are also quick to help others, and you will show mercy to the people that also extend their hand of mercy to others. Someone that is remarked for being cruel will also get their own measure of cruelty and they will hardly receive mercy. The truth is that there is no gain in being cruel to others, rather you have everything to gain by showing mercy, at least it will not only make you to receive mercy, but it will also make you a better person.
If your only desire is to prove that you are right, then you have lost touch of humanity and your mercy is questionable. I am not saying that being right is not good, but if being right will cost you your kindness, then the latter should be preferred. At the end of your life's journey, nobody will ask you how many times you were right, and neither will you be remembered for any of them, but you will be remembered for being kind.
