Many people find it very difficult to forgive themselves for what they did in the past and they keep revisiting their past memories, and this has not only haunted them but halted their movement. Each time you open a wound that has not healed, you are simply prolonging the time for it to heal. No doubt, you may have taken wrong steps in the past or you may have been inactive in taking the right steps, but there is no amount of regrets that will alter what you did; so move on.

The reason the past is called "past" is because it has passed but the only hope you have is today. However, for you to make something worthwhile today for the sake of your future, you have to let go of what has been done in the past. The only thing the past serves as is to provide lessons, so that your actions of today will be better.
Your future will not be judged by your errors of the past if you have performed the right actions today. There is no doubt that your present moment is a result of what was done in the past, but your future will be heavily dependent on what will be done today, so you cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes of the past.
In all these, however, one thing you must do to be at peace with yourself is to forgive yourself for the misdeeds of yesterday. This does not mean that you are proud of the misdeeds, it only means that you have lived about it and you are now set to do something right. The truth is; if you have not been able to forgive yourself, then it will be practically impossible to extend the same forgiveness to others.
That you failed in the time past does not automatically put you in the league of failures. The only way to allow the failure to win over you is by constantly visiting the memories of the failure without doing anything to improve on it.
Remember this; if you repeat the same steps you took in the past that brought you the failure, you might see the same failed result that you saw in the past. To move past failure, you have to rise up and give yourself another shot on target. Remember it is only over when you have consciously given up.

It is in your best interest to allow the past to go so that it will not have a negative influence on the future. Even if you made successes in the past, it is still time to improve on it and move over it. Dwelling long on the success of the past without improving on it may compromise the success in the long run.
