There is nothing that comes with a strong motivating force than having a goal to fulfil. It is your goal that gives purpose and meaning to live. Your goal is not necessarily where you are at the moment but where you hope to be and what you hope to achieve in the future. It is by setting a goal that you become motivated to put in your best towards its actualization. More often than not, it is the processes of actualizing the goal that has the major part of the glory and not the size of the goal itself. There is a glory that lies in putting in your best in the actualization of your goal.

I read the story of a world renowned footballer and how he started. He always had a childhood dream of playing football professionally. While growing up, he was a ball-boy that helped to pick balls when competitions were held. From there, he made his way into the academy and from there, he got discovered and was called up for his country's U-17 World Cup tournament. In the tournament, he put up an excellent performance and that was how he was picked up by a big club side to play for and that was his breakthrough. His goal of becoming a footballer kept him going and he never gave up on his dream. Now, all these have become part of his glory.

More often than not, you only need the motivation that comes from setting big goals for it to be achieved. Even if the goal seems too big for you, at least it will give you what to aim at and it will provide its own motivation with it. Your goal should make you better than you were. This is why the ultimate goal is not to be better than someone else, nor to break someone's record but to be a better version of yourself.

One of the things that I have learnt over the years in relation to goal is that, even though it is good to have a big goal, however, to make it easier to be achieved, you need to break it down into micro goals. That is, one step at a time, then after achieving one micro goal, it will lead you to achieving of the next one, and that is how your goal will be easily achieved. If you are waiting for when you will go all out and hit your goal automatically, it may not happen soon, so start from where you are and break your big goal to small steps. One of the amazing things about goals is that as you progress in one, it evolves into a higher one and the progress continues.

To be able to fulfil your goal, you need to take steps, make sacrifices, undertake risks, leave your comfort zone. As a matter of fact, if you are not yet tired of your comfort zone, you may not move pass it. No matter the level at which you are now, one thing is certain; it is not your final destination, so keep taking steady steps. Even if you have actualized your initial goal, there is room to create more goals and to improve on the former one. It is the zeal to pursue after your goals that creates a sense of purpose for living.

Just like life is personal, goals are oftentimes personal. You should not judge your progress by what someone else has achieved nor by someone else's goal. To actualize your goal, you have to be focused on it without being distracted by other people's goal. So as you set goals, you have to be determined to put in your best and keep going until you achieve it. Remember, when setting goal, you should be mindful that you do not make it impossible. The idea is for the goal to be challenging, but not to be impossible to be actualized. This is because the former will motivate you to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone, while the latter will outrightly break you. So make your choice.
