A lot of people believe so much that managing their time properly is what leads to success in life. They tend to organise their schedules, carefully plan for each day, and even create a to-do list. It is true that it is very important to manage your time, but time management is not everything, rather it is just part of the equation. Someone can have enough time, yet will still be struggling to complete a task simply because of physical exhaustion, mental distraction, or even emotional exhaustion. This is the reason why it is also very important for one to manage their energy too.

Energy can be explained as the ability to work effectively, think clearly, and then become productive. You will agree with me that every human has the same allocated 24 hours in a day, but the truth is that not everyone has the same energy level. The people who have understood how to manage their energy will become more productive and will achieve more, because they know when to work, how to work, when to rest, and how to balance their emotional and physical well-being with their tasks. It is not about being busy and running here and there, but it is about being productive and achieving more.
In order to manage your energy well, there are points to note. Firstly, prioritise your tasks and do the most important ones when your energy is still very high. Everyone has a period in the day when they are more focused and more alert. For some people, it is very early in the morning, for others it may be late at night. When I was in school, I realised that I felt better reading at night when everywhere was cool. So I maximised the night time to read, and it made me more focused. You need to identify the part of the day that you are most productive, and then schedule your most important task at that period. You will agree with me that difficult tasks often require concentration, so it is better to do them when you are mentally focused. Then you can do the less demanding tasks when the energy level drops.
You also need to take care of your physical health. It is when you are healthy that you will talk about being productive or performing any task. Without a good health, even the easiest task will look so difficult. To take care of your health, you need to have enough sleep, eat healthily, and exercise regularly. These things may look so simple, but they are part of what keep you healthy. When you are healthy, your concentration will be optimal, and you will be more productive. You have to understand that looking after your health is not luxury, rather it is an investment that you make into your future.
In addition to this, you need to learn to protect your mental and emotional energy. It is not everything that demands your attention. Constant worrying, unnecessary arguments with people, unchecked social media usage, negative environment, etc, can drain someone's emotional and mental energy. You have to be intentional about what you allow into your mind. Spend time with people who add positively to you, stay in a positive environment, read uplifting books, and then create time for quiet reflection.

Focus your energy on what matters most to you. You do not have unlimited energy, so try to use it wisely. Learn to prioritise and do the things that bring value to your life. Invest your energy into learning, into meaningful relationships, into things that bring value to you, into personal growth, and productive work. When you focus on the things that matter the most to you, you will discover that you will achieve more without feeling overwhelmed. It is worthy to note that success is not just about how you have managed your time, but also how you have managed your energy wisely.
